_8:26 pm_[pressessence] Why aren’t you old? Why aren’t you old? No, why are you young? Why won’t you be thinking your thoughts when you are old? Why don’t you by-pass being young and go straight to old age? Why don’t you introduce the nuance of maturity into your beliefs? What would change for you if you finally gave up on the realisability of your aspirations? Why don’t you accept your illusions as illusions but continue to live in accordance with them nonetheless? I politely entreat you to approach your values as if you were contemplating an earthen cup, as if you and it together expressed what, with a gesture of your arm, you might call wabi sabi. _3:57 pm_[pressessence] !New Thing! The second issue of Letters is finished, featuring an investigation into DIY and factory work, a dialogue about Manifesto Against Labour by Gruppe Krisis, and some other things. For a paper copy, please send a donation of postage to:Letters c/o Liberation Projects838 East High Street #115Lexington, KY 40502 USAInternational orders please send an email to editor(at)lettersjournal.org. Correspondence and criticism welcome.www.lettersjournal.orgWhat Letters seems to be all about: generally, the same dispiriting explorations of brutal design and political dead-ends. It looks something like a topy/ptv fanzine from 1983 but with no articles on william burroughs. I wrote the text on the German Ideology and DIY culture, some other people discuss Gruppe Krisis which hasn't sparked a discussion here: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3077 whilst still others, or some of the same, talk about why the term pro-revolutionary (as first used in the monsieur dupont fuel protest leaflet) was probably a mistake. In other words, Letters is a bit better than any other magazine currently available (but not by much!)UK/Europe: Paper copies are available from me. (Comment on this)

_10:20 pm_[seasontoseason] _a new community theoryquotes_YOU HAVE ALWAYS ALREADY JOINED US.a new community, theoryquotes.(kind of like the wildly popular literaryquotes, but with theory.)Some may think that theory is not well suited to being quoted at all, but quoting theory is an interesting exercise and allows us to appreciate the moments when style, wit, vitriol, or personality shine in theoretical prose. This is literature, and can be as affecting as fiction or poetry. (Comment on this)

_1:17 pm_[papakat23] just a quote But certainly for the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, the appearance to the essence... illusion only is sacred, truth profane. Nay, sacredness is held to be enhanced in proportion as truth decreases and illusion increases, so that the highest degree of illusion comes to be the highest degree of sacredness. _8:00 pm_[pressurised] ladling The image for me is chopsticks, that is the beginning of this... an english country bumpkin in a Japanese restaurant. I am skirting around the block, the frozen image. Me and these eating implements. I am being gently coaxed around obstacles that perplex me – so I’m drifting towards Edward Scissorhands. I am caught in an image that expresses a certain quality of robotic melancholy that has been forced into self-recognition by the quicklife of emotion and feeling that surrounds it; the intonation of Kraftwerk, the logic of Harold Lloyd caught up in a clockwork winding of predicament. The machine sees life and says, ‘I am not it’, and thus comes alive. Men as machines, men loving machines, lonely machines, machines loving men. The desiring, automaton, vibrator. What if Hoffman’s Olympia fell in love with Nathaniel, if she gazed at him through a telescope? There is, between men loving machines and machines loving men, about 150 years, that is 150 years between E.T.A Hoffman and P.K. Dick, the same between commodity fetish and integrated spectacle. So it is that I am presented with chopsticks, and the modes, mannerisms, shapes, developments and declines of conventions I have no conception of; the technology, the ritual. thearagorn claims to be a meat and potato vegan, I love that image too, of what is familiar and then unfamiliar, what is arranged on the plate, the order of consumption, the what I am receptive to, and what I am suspicious of. I think of how the home team is obliged to play differently to the away team. Attack, counter-attack, giving way, coming forward. How every style of playing is obliged to take into consideration, the opposition. The question then is, does the player, in the swirls of his tactics, bogged down in play, momentarily become the other player? Or put another way, the more the player becomes the oppant, the more successful he is in overcoming him? (Comment on this)

_6:27 pm_[pressurised] ajoda: like a mothtrap in the forest, it makes you impatient for nightfall http://www.anarchymag.org/I’ve just read ajoda. As one of the few post-stiuationist papers left, it is vital that it is read by you too. I understand that the rather internal character of the anarchist milieu appeals to none but the milieu itself and it too is contorted by high levels of toxic self-loathing. I can see that the scene, the activists, the cult aspect is of little concern to most. Nobody wants to get involved... it seems to ask too much. I agree, I do not wish to promote this implied lifestyle more than any other... on the other hand, a certain level of commitment to feral creatures, those livewires that will drag you down alleys you don’t want to go, is essential to the situationist perspective. Adventures are not the product of choice, and ajoda connects you to adventures you would not think to choose. (2 Comments |Comment on this)

_4:24 pm_[pressurised] the map is not the territory Copyright traps came into the public eye again earlier this year in a New Yorker article about a fake entry in the New Oxford American Dictionary — namely, “esquivalence.” But copyright traps are apparently a frequent enough occurence in maps as well. It’s not just a matter of creating fake streets, rivers, buildings or even towns, although that does happen; it could be a river shown bending one way rather than the other, or a non-existent cul de sac, that proves the copyright holder’s case.taken from maproom (Comment on this)

_2:30 pm_[uterineheresy] NOVEMBER 21, 2005 -- STRIKE AT CAPITALISM Everyday millions of gallons of water polluted with potentially dangerous chemicals that are meant to cleanse our bodies are heinously washed down the drain. These chemicals are more-often-than-not tested purposelessly on animals--a sample of your shampoo was probably injected into the belly of a greyhound or similar beast--and the long term effects of these products on human use has yet to be seen. What has been seen is that many so-called moisturizers actually dry skin out so that consumers become dependent on them. The point is clear: these products are not meant to make us more hygenic rather, but to fill the already bloated wallets of capitalists. STRIKE AT THE CAPITALISTS don't buy or use their hygeine products for a day. Furthermore, those sisters and brothers who choose to not hold up the hygenic values imposed by greedy capitalists have become ostracized. This day will also SHOW SOLIDARITY WITH THOSE BROTHERS AND SISTERS who have chosen to not bathe to create new patterns of existence or simply because they cannot afford the capitalists' products. Please distribute this as widely as possible.
