Triglav National Park Adventure (original) (raw)

Day 1: Hike the lonely trails of the Julian Alps

The tour starts at Lake Bohinj. Let us know if you need us to arrange a transfer for you or reach Lake Bohinj on your own. From the lake, you’ll get a transfer to the trailhead to the mountainside at the start of your hiking adventure.

Initially, the forest path will take you through wild forests to charming alpine pastures with livestock in the summer months. Further on, the gravel trail leads over mountain passes with great views over alpine valleys enclosed by high mountain walls, from which sharp summits pierce the sky.

If climbing the highest mountain in the Julian Alps, Mt. Triglav, is something you would like to add to the trip, you’ll hike for additional 2 hours and 500 elevation meters to a mountain hut just below the summit and overnight there.

Hiking: 10 km / elevation +1000 m, -300 m / approx. 6 hours
Overnight: mountain hut (private rooms if available!) with shared bathrooms

Day 2: Trek through the Triglav Lakes Valley

Hike a gently descending path through the Velo Polje alpine pasture, where you can taste fresh cheese. Ask at the pasture’s small dairy, nestled under the stunning summits of Mt. Tosc, Triglav and Miselj Vrh. The summits encircle a stunning alpine valley, from where on you’ll walk over lots of rocks and gravel on barren alpine terrain, where edelweiss flowers or a group of alpine ibexes are likely to be seen.

From the ‘lunar surface’ of the Hribarice Plateau climb to the highest point of the trip, Mt. Kanjavec, and descend down through the Valley of the Seven Triglav Lakes. The pleasantly undulating trail will take you through the valley of the Seven Triglav Lakes, with beautiful yet small lakes, named after Triglav.

If you are climbing Mt. Triglav, you’ll meet your IFMGA mountain guide early in the morning at the mountain hut. Together you’ll tackle a ridge via-ferrata route safely to the summit of the mountain. Take in the breathtaking full-circle view from the top of Slovenia, experience the traditional baptism with a rope and start with the descent. Once out of the technical terrain and back on an easier trail, say goodbye to the mountain guide and continue on your own across the Hribarice Plateau to the Seven Triglav Lakes valley.

Hiking: 12 km / elevation gain +700 m, -750 m / approx. 7 hours
Overnight: mountain hut (private rooms if available!) with shared bathrooms

Day 3: Trek the highlands of the Komna Plateau

Leave the highest peaks of the Julian Alps and enjoy the green meadows and forests of the alpine karst plateau of Komna. The route to your next overnight location is rather short, which makes for an ideal opportunity for a more leisurely day or longer hiking trip with a variety of different detours to nearby summits and lookouts.

Nowadays most of the day’s trails are rarely hiked, therefore feel like having the whole mountain for yourself.

Hiking: 8 – 17 km / elevation +350 to 700 m, -500 to 800 m / approx. 3-7 hours
Overnight: mountain hut (private rooms if available!) with shared bathrooms

Day 4: Hike the Southern Bohinj mountain traverse

On the last day of the Triglav National Pak Adventure you’ll traverse the mountains south of Lake Bohinj and admire the panoramic view of the Central Julian Alps. Treat yourself to a home-made apple strudel at an alpine farm and take the cable car from one of Slovenia’s highest ski resorts to the Bohinj valley. It’s where your hiking adventure ends, on the shore of Lake Bohinj with a refreshing swim in crystal clear waters.

Your car is either parked just nearby or let us know to organize a transfer to your next location.

Hiking: 14 km / elevation +700 m, -700 m / approx. 6 hours
