Claire Huchet Bishop was bron in Geneva, Switzerland c. 1899. She attended the Sorbonne. In 1924 she started the first children's library in France, L'Heure Joyeuse. She emigrated to the United States, working as a political activist, librarian and author. She was a prize winning children's book writer. She was also a leading opponent of anti-Semitism. She died in 1993.
