Born on a farm near Clyde, Mich. in 1866., grad. from U. of M., 1888, on music faculty of Ripon College, Grinnel and U. of Wisconsin. Headed Michigan Dept. of Columbia U. summer sessions. Taught music theory in Chicago from 1909. In 1935 named Dean of the Cosmopolitan School of Music in Chicago. Won national prominence as a composer of organ music, symphonic music, opera and choral compositions. Died May 18, 1952.
