Taylor was born in 1918 and began working for the Frick Laboratory in 1937. He directed the move of the Frick Carnivore and Camel collections from the Frick Laboratory to the American Museum of Natural History. He was curator at the Museum from 1972 to 1980 and conducted research on deer and cameloid fossils in North America.
