Born in New Hampshire, George Washington Jonson taught for a short time in Aurora, N.Y. before moving to Buffalo to study law with Joseph T. Clary and Millard Fillmore. A noted abolitionist, he took over Nathan K. Hall's place in Buffalo's Holland Land Company office.
