Harrison was a mining and railroad investor of St. Louis, Mo. He was born in Washington, Arkansas and studied with Frederic Ward Putnam (under Louis Agassiz) at Harvard College. He was variously involved in mining and milling, railroading and natural gas ventures. He was socially active and took part in numerous historical and scientific associations.
