These photographs are probably selections from the photographer's series entitled "Boston Document" in which she sought to "show the upheaval caused by urban renewal, and the special quality of Boston." The series grew out of Shwachman's work as the photographer for the Boston Redevelopment Authority from 1960 to 1962.
