Created in 1961, Red Dust is dedicated to publishing work thought to be unpublishable because of length, form or content, according to founder, publisher and author Joanna Gunderson. In 1963, Red Dust released its first books: Mathis at Colmar, by Linda Nochlin; and Sights, by Anna Holmes. Over the years Red Dust has published many notable works of international fiction and poetry, including those by French avant-garde writer Robert Pinget, French poet and essayist Francis Ponge, Peruvian poet Antonio Cisneros, and German poet Erich Fried. English translations for Red Dust have been rendered by Maureen Ahern, William Rowe, David Tipton, Bruce Benderson, Patrick Bowles, Lee Fahnestock, Stuart Hood, Ursule Molinaro, and Barbara Wright.
