The Irving family includes Washington Irving (1783-1859), his brothers Ebenezer Irving (1776-1868), William Irving (1766-1821), his nephews and nieces Pierre P. Irving (1806-1878), Pierre M. Irving (1802-1876), Catherine Anne Irving (1816-1911), and Sarah Irving (1817-1900). Washington Irving was the first major American author. He also held diplomatic posts in England and Spain. His home Sunnyside on the Hudson River was once part of the Philipse Manor.
