Samuel Taggart (1754-1823), the son of Matthew and Jane (Anderson) Taggart, was born on 24 March 1754 in Londonderry, N.H. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1774. Taggart was ordained pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Colrain, Mass., on 19 February 1777, and remained there until 28 October 1818. He was elected as a Federalist to Congress in 1803 and served in every successive Congress until 1817. He was married twice and had seventeen children. He died on 25 April 1825 at Colrain, Mass.
