U.S. frigate launched 1822; from 1832-1834 spent time in the Pacific on a voyage to Sumatra to punish pirates for their capture of a merchant ship from Salem, Mass., and the massacre of its crew; afterwards cruised to Brazil and other South American countries; decommissioned in 1877.
