Weatherby (Harvard, A.B. 1897; A.M. 1898) was interested in botany and volunteered at Gray Herbarium during summers. In 1931 he became Assistant Curator; Senior Curator in 1937; and Research Associate upon his retirement in 1940. Weatherby is best known as a fern specialist, but also researched in other areas, such as botanical nomenclature.
