Dr. Youmans received his M. D. degree from the Johns Hopkins Medical School. He was Professor of Medicine and Director of Post Graduate Instruction at Vanderbilt University, 1927-1946; Dean and Professor of Medicine, University of Illinois, 1946-1950; and, from 1950-1958 he was Dean, Professor of Medicine and Director of Medical Affairs at Vanderbilt. Youmans was Chief of the Nutrition Division of the Preventive Medicine Service within the Army Surgeon General's Office. He carried out nutrition surveys in China and the Pacific and European theaters (1944-46).
