Military department consisting of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, with the expedition and forces under Brigadier General Sherman. The U.S. Army constittuted this Dept., 15 Mar. 1862, defined as the states of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida; placed under Division of the South in 1869, and under the Atlantic Division in 1876; merged into Dept. of the East in 1883.
