Abstract
Maps illustrating organization of plants in all the various gardens and the Conservatory. Maps may show architectural details, paths as well as actual location of plants. The maps are of various forms, including grids, and show herbaceous beds, woody plants, trees, Rock Garden, Local Floral Section, Herb Garden, lilacs, Fragrance and Shakespeare Gardens, Children's Garden, perennial border, Systematic Section, and willows. Other sections of the Garden illustrated include the grounds, iris, White Memorial, rhododendrons, Osborne, Cranford Rose Garden, wildflower, Japanese, and Clark Garden on Long Island. Also includes plans for yews and rearrangement of lilacs. Architectural drawings include original plans for entire Garden drawn up by Olmsted Brothers, ca. 1911; Laboratory (now Administration) Building, and Conservatory designed by McKim, Mead & White, 1915; original irrigation system and proposals for rehabilitation. In addition, includes architectural drawings and plans for Conservatory renovation and addition of new greenhouses, 1977-1984.
