Title

La part du diable [collection] : opéra comique en 3 actes / paroles de E. Scribe ; musique de D.F.E. Auber. 1873-1889.

Abstract

Arranged in three groups: I. Vocal scores (4). II. Librettos (1). III. Promptbooks (4). Production materials in French and English for Auber's "La part du diable," known variously in English as "The good devil" or "The devil's share." The four vocal scores in French are publications of Brandus (Paris, 188-?). The libretto, also in French, is a publication of Tresse (Paris, 1873). Included in the libretto is a list of the cast for the first performance, January 16, 1843 in Paris. Two of the promptbooks, in French, are manuscript and include stage direction, scene, costume, and property plots. Of the two remaining promptbooks, one is manuscript, in English, and is incomplete, and the other is manuscript with parts of a published libretto (English) inserted (copyright by E.I. Wetherell, 1887). A label inside the cover lists the cast for a performance by the Emma Abbott Grand Opera Co.
