Title

Charles E. Stevens letters, 1884-1886.

Abstract

Letters written to Charles E. Stevens, evidently a student or young professional in New Orleans, La., from his mother and another female relative who signs her letters only as "H.M.D." The letters, written from Covington, La., tell of weather conditions, the activities and illnesses of friends and relatives in Covington, motherly worries about Stevens' health and safety, annoyances associated with children who attend a school that Stevens' mother runs, in-season fruits and vegetables, spates of ill health and melancholy, longing for Stevens' presence, loneliness, and the desire for his return.
