Abstract

Sir Gilbert Talbot of Grafton, Worcester, was a staunch adherent of the Earl of Richmond at Bosworth, 1485, and received his knighthood and grant of the Manor of Grafton from the victor for his valiant conduct. The varied and miscellaneous items of expense detailed in this volume include "for a newe shieth for his sword and dagger 10d"; "for mynistreles"; "for the booke of dyce, Songs and Sonets and a French booke, VIII pence," etc.

English antiquary and collector. He began collecting while at Rugby School and Oxford. On inheriting his father's estate at Middle Hill in Worcestershire, Phillipps embarked on a career of collecting manuscripts and books. His collection of manuscripts eventually numbered over 60,000 items.
