A birthright Friend, John Comly was the son of Isaac and Asenath Hampton Comly of Byberry. In 1803, John married Rebecca Budd of Mt. Holly, New Jersey. Over the course of his lifetime, John Comly worked as a farmer, an educator, a surveyor, a conveyancer, and published a number of books, including a grammar, spelling book, primer, and reader. George M. Justice was an abolitionist and birthright Quaker. He was born in 1792, the son of George and Phebe Justice. In 1816 he married Esther Bunting.
