Journalist. Born Chenoa, Illinois, 1913; graduated University of Chicago, 1934. Lived in Europe where she studied at League of Nations, Geneva, and edited monthly review for Graduate Institute of International Affairs. Lived in girls' labor camp in Germany, 1937, studying Nazi indoctrination methods; foreign correspondent for NBC during World War II, in France, Spain and Gibraltar; first outsider to broadcast from Spanish Civil War.
