Abstract
Negative taken of the historical marker found in Garland, Miller County, Arkansas that commemorates the place where the home of Augustus H. Garland, governor of Arkansas once stood. Deane more than likely took this negative during his career with the Arkansas Gazette. Marker reads, "Miller County home of Augustus H. Garland. Near here on Red River stood the first Arkansas home of Augustus H. Garland, Governor of Arkansas, U.S. Senator and Attorney General in the cabinet of President Cleveland, this home and the old family cemetery were washed away in the flood of 1849. 1836 Arkansas Centennial Comm. Arkansas History Comm. 1936."
