Upton Sinclair was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1878. Sinclair was an American author, novelist, journalist, and political activist who wrote many books in several genres. He is most well-known for his exposé, The Jungle regarding conditions in Chicago's meat packing plants, which influenced the passage of the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906. Leonard Lyons, born Leonard Sucher, September 10, 1906, New York, New York, attended the City College of New York from 1924 to 1925, and received his Bachelor of Law degree from St. John's University College of Law in 1928. He was admitted to the New York Bar the same year, then to the Federal Bar in 1929, practicing law in New York City from 1929 to 1934. He married Sylvia R. Schonberger on November 29, 1934.
