Abstract
Printed descriptions of his mementos of western settlement and his telegraph documents, which he donated to the New York Historical Society in 1859-1860. Enclosed is a printed letter written by O'Reilly, 9 Dec. 1869, on the "origin and progress of the telegraph system", read by Hon. Charles P. Daly to the American Geographical and Statistical Society, New York.

Born in Ireland; came to the United States with his family in 1816. Editor of the Rochester (N.Y.) Daily Advertiser, 1826; involved with S. F. B. Morse and Amos Kendall in construction of telegraph lines from eastern Pennsylvania to St. Louis in the 1840s. In later life, he spelled his name "O'Rielly" instead of O'Reill...
