It was a brisk autumn night and Ginny Weasley was sleeping peacefully in her bed at Hogwarts. Moonlight shone through the window, illuminating her face.

The wind started to howl and Ginny tossed and turned, but not because the wind was stirring her from her sleep. In her mind she could hear the faintest of whispers calling out her name.

Ginny... Ginny... Ginevra....

It was a voice she would never forget, the voice of the one person who had known her better than anyone else. Tom Marvolo Riddle.

Ginny... talk to me, Ginny... I'm here for you... waiting for you....

Ginny could now see a tall sixteen-year-old boy with black hair in her dream, but he didn't belong there. While everyone else was wearing dress robes, he was in his Hogwarts robes.

She let go of the man's hands she was holding and walked over to him, careful not to let her white dress get dirty as she walked across the lawn. "Tom?" she whispered as she drew closer to him. "What are you doing here? You're gone, you're not... real. You don't exist. You're not real, you can't be here!" As she spoke, her voice grew more and more frantic before she finally reached out and shoved him.

Tom didn't say a word, he simply smiled at Ginny as he regained his balance.

Ginny looked behind her, wondering what he could be smiling at. As she did so, the happy image of her wedding to Harry Potter vanished before her eyes. She looked down and saw instead of her beautiful wedding dress, she was wearing the bloodstained Hogwarts robes she could remember waking up in, not knowing what she'd been doing.

She looked up at Tom and saw they were now in the Chamber of Secrets, deep down beneath the school. She trembled in fear and slowly started to back away from him. "Wh-what are you doing? Why are you here?"

Tom strode forward and reached his arm out. He grabbed hold of her arm and pulled her towards him. His hungry, dark eyes looking into her frightened, brown ones. "It's been too long, Ginny," he whispered.

"What do you want?" she asked, trying to pull away from him.

He reached out and grabbed her other arm, pulling her even closer. "You," was all he said.

Her eyes widened in horror and she looked around. "Help!" she shouted. "Someone, please, help me!"

Tom chuckled. "No one's coming, Ginny," he said. "I'm not real, just like you said. I'm just here, in your dreams. I'm your memory now, nothing more. Whatever I do now, it's because you want me to. You want me to let go of you, I let go of you." He looked down at his hands and added, "But, it doesn't look like you want me to let go, because I'm still holding onto you."

Ginny turned to look at him again and then looked down. Her school robes were no longer bloodstained. "I... want this?" she repeated.

He reached up and cupped her face in his hand. "Yes, you do," he whispered. "Don't you remember, Ginny? Don't you remember what we were?"

"I remember you used me to attack innocent people and then you tried to kill me!" she shouted as she struggled to get away from him.

"Before that," he whispered. "Do you remember our first conversation?"

Dear Diary,

I found this in with my school stuff, Mum must have figured I'd need something to confide in. I'm going to Hogwarts for the first time on September 1st. All my brothers have already gone there before me and four of them are still there but they all have their own friends. Other than them, I'm not really going to know anyone, and Ron's best friend is Harry Potter of all people! He's staying at our house right now. I'm so nervous around him, and I wind up doing some of the stupidest things. How am I going to survive the year at Hogwarts with him around all the time? And I don't even know if I'm going to be in the same house as my brothers. They're all in Gryffindor as were my parents, but what if I'm not? What am I going to do? I wish you could reply, I could really use someone to talk to....

Love, Ginny

Dear Ginny,

Hello.... I hope you don't mind my responding, but I couldn't help but relate to some of your problems. I didn't know anyone when I went to Hogwarts either. I grew up in an orphanage, didn't know I was a wizard until it was time to go to Hogwarts. I'm sure things will be better for you and that you'll make lots of new friends. Again, I hope you don't mind, and if I'm not being too forward, I'm here for you whenever you need someone to talk to.

~Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ginny's whole body relaxed as she remembered. She looked up at Tom, thinking of all the times he'd listened to her worries and fears and offered her advice. He'd been the best friend she'd ever had. He'd listened, he'd responded, he had always been there for her.

"Tom," she whispered, tears in her eyes, as she flung her arms around his neck. She started to cry into his chest, tightly gripping the back of his robes.

Tom smiled and wrapped his arms around her. "Shhh," he whispered. "I'm here, Ginny, don't cry, I'm here for you. I'll always be here for you. I promise. All you have to do is fall asleep and dream...."

Ginny woke up to the sound of an owl hooting somewhere in the distance. She looked around the room and saw the other girls in her dormitory were still fast asleep. She got out of bed and walked over to the window to look out at the night sky, feeling very depressed as she realized how much she missed the Tom Marvolo Riddle she had known before he'd turned out to be a young Lord Voldemort.
