This paper presents an optomechatronic system which can detect, by triangulation, the position of... more This paper presents an optomechatronic system which can detect, by triangulation, the position of a light point source, fastened onto a robot part. The sensing system consists of two positioning modules for optical transducers, which automatically follow the direction of the light point source. The system control is accomplished by means of data acquisition boards and LabVIEW programming.
The importance of business related services has been growing consequently during the past years. ... more The importance of business related services has been growing consequently during the past years. Industrial Services constitute the greatest share of business related service with 30% of their intermediate output. But those kinds of services are facing tremendous challenges in terms of synchronizing their process with the manufacturing processes of their customers. The EU funded project InCoCo-S aims to tackle these challenges by the development of an innovative reference model for the collaboration between Service Providers and Manufacturers. Currently, the development of the structure of the reference model is finished and its validation has already begun. In this scope, SKF, as one of the consortium partners, is currently implementing the results in their new service division — Windmill Condition Monitoring. This paper provides detailed information about conducted surveys within the InCoCo-S project, the Reference Model and its practical application.

The ratio of the production of very slow antiprotons to that of pions in the same momentum interv... more The ratio of the production of very slow antiprotons to that of pions in the same momentum interval was measured at the ISR by means of nuclear emulsions. Averaged over the interval 0.12 GeV/c <= p⊥ <= 0.34 GeV/c and 0 <= p|| <= 0.2 GeV/c, N(p)/N(pi-) = 0.063 +/- 0.012.

They should have submicronic resolution, often in a practically unlimited working range, as well to be stable, reliable and to have compact construction. By use of piezoelectric materials, devices having the potential to control the system structure and consequently the degrees of freedom of the mechanical components could be achieved. The paper presents some of the actuators, built and experimentally tested by the authors, as well as their associated mathematical models.

This study was undertaken with the aim of testing the action of amitriptyline on the epithelial N... more This study was undertaken with the aim of testing the action of amitriptyline on the epithelial Na channel (ENaC), which belongs to the same family (Deg/ENaC) as ASICs (acid-sensing ion channels) and many other putative members in the brain. We assumed that, having a common protein structure, characterization of the amitriptyline-ENaC interaction could help to elucidate the analgesic mechanism of this tricyclic antidepressant. Na-channel characteristics were derived from the analysis of blocker-induced lorentzian noise produced by amiloride. The effect of amitriptyline, present in the mucosal bathing solution, on the transepithelial short-circuit current (I sc ) and conductance (G t ), and on the blocker-induced noise of apical Na channels, was studied on isolated ventral skin of the frog Rana ridibunda. Amitriptyline exerted a dual effect on the macroscopic short-circuit current and conductance of the epithelia, increasing these two parameters in the concentration range 0.1-50 M, while at higher concentrations (100-1000 M) it showed an inhibitory action. The decrease in the association rate (k 01 ) of amiloride to the apical Na channels from 15.6 4.2 M 1 s 1 in control Cl-Ringer to 7.4 1.7 M 1 s 1 at 200 M amitriptyline in a concentration-dependent manner suggests a competitive binding of amitriptyline to the pyrazine ring binding site for amiloride.
The actual growth of high-technologies and future applications in micro- and nano-manufacturing h... more The actual growth of high-technologies and future applications in micro- and nano-manufacturing have raised the need for low cost / high performance micro-positioners. Photonic packaging, optical device testing, MEMS positioning/alignment, fiber alignment, micromachining, micro-manipulation, semiconductor handling systems, microsurgery are some examples of applications, from which the most are in the optical field. Very often, micro-positioning systems with micron or submicron resolution m needed to be run open loop, without feedback position sensors. Such devices are achievable with strain actuators like piezoelectric, magnetostrictive or electrostrictive ones. Two kinds of actuators could be used, with continuous motion or with discrete motion. The first could reach all the points from a space but request real time control. The second could reach only a finite number of points in space, but the command is binary, easy to implement. The working space for discrete actuators can be reached using a lot of actuators, series connected. The paper presents a piezoelectric actuator with 3 DOF, that could be used for micro-positioning. The investigated actuator is a scale model, for checking the principle and the models.

The work consisted of design, modeling and simulation of an electromagnetic actuator, able to drive a valve with certain dynamic performances, within the desired stroke and development of an experimental system including electronic control and correspondent software.
