CDA Director Angela Vessey highlights the benefits, and examines some of the growing number of healthcare installations of 'antimicrobial copper' worldwide.

The degree of O-acetylation of peptidoglycan estimated from the TLC was 25% for strain P9-2 and 34% for strain KW-2, appreciably lower than the O-acetylation of peptidoglycan isolated from batch grown cultures (47% and 57% respectively). Monomeric units (O-acetylated and non-O-acetyl-ated) were isolated by gel filtration and further analysed by reverse phase HPLC. The amount of O-acetylmonomer tetrapeptide and 1,6-anhydromuramyl residues present in the peptidoglycan was estimated.
