Welcome to Livejournal's only community for South Beach Dieters. To quote from the official website: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. The South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right fats-the good ones-and enables you to live quite happily without the bad carbs and bad fats.
This community is about support. We want to help share your good news, your plateaus, your fumbles.
Good luck!

Some Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. How long should I stay on Phase 1?
A. You should stay on Phase 1 for at least two weeks, but no more than three weeks. Phase 1 is meant to break your body of your carb and sugar addiction. It is NOT meant to be your main weight loss Phase, that's what Phase 2 is for.
Q. How much should I expect to lose on Phase 1?
A. The amount you lose will vary depending on your body type, but you should lose between 8-13 pounds in two weeks. I lost 9 pounds. If you have a smaller body, or less to lose (like only 10 pounds to lose) you will probably lose less on Phase 1.
Q. How much should I expect to lose on Phase 2?
A. On Phase 2, you should only lose 1-2 pounds a week. This rate is what is healthy for your body. Losing a large amount of weight for a long period of time is unhealthy and puts stress on your body. The TRICK to Phase 2 is to find what new foods you can add and still lose weight. Look for Phase 2 tips and tricks in the Memories section.
Q. Should I be eating full fat mayo, low-fat mayo, or fat-free mayo?
A. Dr. Agatston, the creator of the South Beach Diet, has said "Remember to use the regular kind, not the low fat. Regular mayonnaise is high in fat, but it is predominantly soybean oil, a good fat." He says to avoid the low-fat and fat-free mayo's because they have a lot of added sugars, which is a big no-no on the SBD.
Q. I'm just not hungry first thing in the morning. Is it ok to skip breakfast?
A. Dr. A. REALLY frowns on this. The foundation of the SBD is keeping your blood sugar even, and to do that, you have to put something in your stomach! Also, "A recent study published in the medical journal Obesity revealed that people who are successful at losing weight and keeping it off are faithful members of the 'breakfast club.'" If you really really can't eat first thing in the morning, have something within two hours of waking.
