_12:00 pm_[general_jinjur] | so it's like this: i fell into an alternate universe. and time runs differently there. so i ran the spander 5k this morning. or maybe rl just tossed a few complications my way and this was the first chance i had to do it. a month and two days late. but! not only did my running partner and i talk about spander when we had any breath to spare, i had my best time ever! which isn't a very good time, but still - 12 min 15 sec/mile. which is a solid 20 seconds faster than my previous best time. and i managed to build us a route that took us down harris road, though not down william street. 50% thematic is just going to have to be thematic enough.congratulations again to everyone on their runs/walks. _8:22 am_[aimeelicious] | I walked... ...and walked and walked and I did not come in last. =)It was a lovely evening, people were nice, the CD transferred to my iPod (with much rejoicing) so I listened to almost the whole thing, there were munchies at the end, and I felt really good about participating. Then I used Ben-Gay. Strictly as a preventative measure, of course. |

_12:14 pm_[witling] | Woo-hoo! We rocked the Spander 5K here in our little corner of the world, with a sunny morning and a couple of firefighters in full gear, and a bunch of little kids, and some seriously long straightaways. Sheesh. It was a 10K all told, which means next year we can put our feet up and congratulate ourselves on having stored an extra 5K away for the future. Gist: Jolie did fantastic, I survived, and then we went for bagels. What more could we want?In recognition of everyone's excellent effort in this excellent event, I thought a little something special was in order. Well, okay, maybe not special. Maybe more "special." Whatever. In honor of everyone's blood, sweat, and tears....( Spander 5K: The ficletCollapse )Congratulations, all finishers!!!!!!!!!! Current Mood: finished! (16 Comments |Comment on this) |
_2:38 am_[thirdbird] | 31'45" I ran the Spander 5K with the remnants of a lovely hangover this morning, having gone all wild and crazy last night and forgotten that 2.5 drinks is way more than enough to get me schnockered these days. Nonetheless I managed to cover the distance in about 31 minutes 45 seconds, a pretty good time for me - I kept thinking about taking walk breaks but the SX5K2 mix CD was merciless and WOULD NOT LET ME STOP until I had gutted my way through to the bitter end. Then I came home, rapidly consumed two jelly donuts, and fell into a light swoon on the sofa to vaguely delirious mental images of Spike sneaking roofies into Xander's secret donut stash, the better to take advantage of him in various wicked ways. Happy SX5K2 day to all and to all a good night! Current Mood: zonked (9 Comments |Comment on this) |
_11:24 am_[jolielaide] | HAPPY SX5K2 DAY! In which we celebrate freedom from the tyranny of non-vampire/zeppo relationships. Yay Spander! So, I ran a 10K, which is all my town was offering. I fully planned to drop out at the halfway point, but I found myself going strong at 5K and so just kept on. I don't actually know my proper race time, because I was running with a friend and we were definitely not doing race-pace-- there were pit stops, and stops for side stitches, and uphill walking, and stops for babies and husbands (hers, not mine) so I most assuredly can't count this one as a PR or anything. But there were 3,000+ people on the streets, and bagels afterward, and gorgeous weather, and witling waiting for me at the finish-- looking pretty much as if she'd just gone out for a casual stroll to pick up coffee and the paper, I might add-- and all in all it was a great day and a great run. And hey, I ran 6 miles! Look out, Ros-- I'm catching up with you! :)Thank you all so much for doing this. It made it so much more fun and silly and great. And if I can figure out my new digital camera, there may even be pictures...♥ saussy ♥ Current Mood: tired, sore, happy (2 Comments |Comment on this) |
_8:14 am_[flowery_twat] | first past the post? Things to report:5 kilometres run22 minutes from start to finish (my only portable timing device is my cell phone which doesn't have a stopwatch function, but I'd guess 22:50 if the seconds matter)On giant YEE HAW!!!!Saussy, doll. I'm so sorry you're illin'. I'm retroactively dedicating my run to you, sweet one. Get better soon.Jolie. I didn't get my cd. It suddenly occurs to me that I didn't actually ever give you an address. I wonder if the two are connected. Hee.Happy Spander5K Day, everyone. Thanks so much for inspiring me to do this. Current Mood: entirely pleased (21 Comments |Comment on this) |

_7:19 pm_[jolielaide] | NOTICE TO ALL-COMERS DON'T FORGET TO RUN THE SPANDER 5K TOMORROW, JULY 4, 2005.Did you get your cds? Have you all been rocking out?I haven't run in two weeks, and since my folks have been visiting, I've been eating like 6-7 meals a day and don't even get me started about the drinking. What else do you do with parents? Eat and drink like a mother. Yikes.I also want to long-distance-dedicate my run tomorrow to saussy, our fallen comrade. I might run with her picture safety-pinned to my breast. Well, not to my breast, because that would hurt. But to my race shirt, right over my race number. <3<3<3What's UP, ladies? _11:10 am_[7spoons] | i'm worth a million in prizes Hello lovelies, I've been a bit quiet this week, due to illness and the sinking knowledge I wouldn't be strong enough to run the spander5k on Monday. So here's the thing. I'm admitting now I won't be able to run/walk with you. However, I want to cheer you on and give you some incentive to go on without me. (I know, I know. It's really hard.) I've ordered a sx5k2 shirt with a bat graphic on the back, not customized with my name or anything, so I'd like to donate it to the person who posts the best time and who also has not ordered a shirt. So if #1 has a shirt, it goes to #2. Aiight? So everyone who's running, definitely note and post your time on Monday. Peace, y'all. One love. Stay strong. XO (11 Comments |Comment on this) |

_9:56 pm_[thirdbird] | slash and dash, junior division It would be way too perverse of me, right, to run on Monday with the jogging stroller and dress the baby up in a little SX5K2 onesie? Yeah, I thought so. (So funny and cute, though...but no, no, no. Bad mama! Bad!) (5 Comments |Comment on this) |
_7:51 am_[jolielaide] | Hey there little trotters--My *parents* are visiting this week so I've been a little crazed, but I just wanted to check in--I sent cds to saussy, ros_fod, annakovsky, thirdbird, aimeelicious and herself_nyc.I don't have addresses for: flowery_twat, ruthless1, trepkos, and rubywisp.I'm also not sure about some of the other folks who have joined or friended this community but haven't posted-- are you guys running, or just cheering us on? If you're running or walking on or around the 4th and want a cd, post and let me know!xo (10 Comments |Comment on this) |

_2:09 pm_[7spoons] | Hey hot mamas, Have people ordered their shirts yet? What are you getting printed on the back, if anything? LJ handle, nickname, lucky number, what? Just curious. I'm still undecided.Training update: Blew off Tuesday's run. Actually, let me explain. I got up, got dressed, laced up running shoes, did hamstring stretches, gathered iPod and keys, and then crawled back into bed with all my gear. I was powerful tired. I made up for it this morning with a 30 minute run, which is a big improvement for me, endurance wise, but unfortunately I can't calculate my time per mile since I don't know how far I'm going. I'm guessing 30 minutes is 3 miles, based on my slow-mo reputation. Apparel update: The shorts arrived...and they're omg awesome! Playlist update: Added "Everybody Got Their Something" by Nikka Costa, which is a kick ass running song. It makes me feel all groovy and girl power. I'll post it here later. So, that's all for now. Can't wait to get the cd, jolielaide! XO (7 Comments |Comment on this) |

_9:14 am_[flowery_twat] | heeeeee! So I've been feeling ridiculously chuffed with the pace I've been running at lately. I knocked it up to 3miles this morning, and still kept it below 6 minutes/mile. But then in my hubris I thought I'd go read some Runner's World training suggestions and maybe start working some intervals into my schedule. Heee. I am such a poseur. These people run for 3 hrs or more at a time! 20 minutes for me and I'm all 'ok, done now! where's that donut?'. Heeeee.Clearly I have some work ahead of me. :-)But seriously. I just wanted to say how inspiring all the rest of you are. When I think about skipping a run I think of you guys out there running real distances and tackling hills and things and I find my motivation. Y'all rock! _9:46 pm_[jolielaide] | SPANDER 5K COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Committee members present: jolielaide, saussyTopics discussed: Spander 5K CD, T-shirt, gay vampire porn, today's trainingAction items: finalize cd playlist, finalize t-shirt designAGENDA1. HERE IS WHERE YOUR VOICE CAN BE HEARD. The committee could not agree on a slogan, so we're opening it up for a FINAL vote. Yes, I know, some of you have voted before. Vote again! It's just like the 2000 presidential election in Florida. If you voted for W., that is. Anyway, two choices, please post your answers in the comments. _3:11 pm_[7spoons] | training I stuck to my new training schedule and ran this morning. I have no way of knowing the distance, since I'm running on an unmarked path beside the Henry Hudson Parkway, but I ran 20 minutes Tuesday and 20 minutes today, and today I went farther. Further? I covered more ground. So that's cool. Of course I got to work and felt like my shins, tops of my feet, low back and right hip had been blugeoned with a tire iron. I think I'll take Saturday off and just do yoga instead, then run again Sunday. I meant to alternate yoga and running this week, but so far I've skipped out on yoga. I don't know why. I guess adding in running makes me feel tireder. More tired. I get sleepy at the end of the day. Current Mood: creaky (7 Comments |Comment on this) |
