• Type genus: Pinus L., Sp. Pl. 2: 1000 (1753).

Note: Molecular studies support a two subfamily and five tribe classification (Yang et al. 2022), whereas seed and cone morphology favours the four subfamily approach found here {Gymnosperm Database, 2026).
