Golf's Longest Day: U.S. Open final qualifying results, highlights (original) (raw)
Dubbed Golf's Longest Day, Monday, June 8, was the last day of final qualifying for the U.S. Open. But it was more than one day for a pair of players at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Oregon, where there were nine playoff holes needed to punch the final ticket.
But now, the qualifying has concluded, and 43 players have locked up a spot on the tee sheet at Shinnecock Hills, where the 126th U.S. Open will begin Thursday, June 18. See the full list of qualifiers below and check out highlights from Golf's Longest Day.

Andrew Putnam secures final spot in U.S. Open qualifying
Golf's Longest Day was even longer for two players at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Oregon. It took nine playoff holes for Andrew Putnam to defeat Spencer Tibbits for the final spot in the 2026 U.S. Open. The pair played six playoff holes Monday night before calling it quits due to darkness, and returned to Emerald Valley on Tuesday morning, playing three more holes before Putnam finally secured the win with a par on the the ninth extra hole. Tibbits will be the first alternate out of that site.
There is one qualifier that will conclude on Tuesday
The Emerald Valley qualifier in Oregon was halted by darkness. There were just two spots available here and Greyson Leach grabbed the first one after winning the qualifier at 4 under. Andrew Putnam and Spencer Tibbits ended up in a 2-for-1 playoff but they will have to decide things on Tuesday morning.

Three more amateurs punch their tickets
PGA Tour veteran Taylor Montgomery won the Del Paso Country Club qualifier in Sacramento at 7 under, but he was joined by three amateurs to make up the four to advance to Shinnecock: Eric Lee (6 under), Matthew Robles (6 under) and Marek Fleming (4 under).
Coming up short in this qualifier: BYU stud freshman Kihei Akina (3 under), Geoff Ogilvy (even) and Michael Block (1 over).
Jackson Suber wins Woodmont qualifier
Jackson Suber at 10 under was the lone golfer in this qualifier to reach double digits under par. Ben Kohles and amateur Logan Reilly were tied for second at 7 under, while Jake Sollon nabbed the final spot at 5 under. Kohles won the Korn Ferry Tourβs BMW Charity Pro-Am just 24 hours prior.
Chris Kirk wins Hawks Ridge qualifier
Chris Kirk was medalist at 15 under, edging Jake Peacock by two and Keith Mitchell by three. Robbie Higgins and amateur Chase Kyes finished tied for fourth at 11 under and they get the last two of the five spots from this qualifier.
The Toronto qualifier ends in 8-for-3 playoff
Emiliano Grillo (9 under), Alejandro Tosti (8 under), Marcelo Rozo (7 under) got through and were later joined by William Mouw, John Parry and Max McGreevy, who all finished 6 under and survived the playoff. Matt Wallace, Jordan Smith, Patrick Fishburn, Max Homa and Adam Svensson came up on the short end in the playoff. Also not advancing from this qualifier: Seamus Power, Kris Ventura, Lanto Griffin, David Lipsky, Lee Hodges, Steven Fisk, Davis Riley, Joe Highsmight and Rafael Campos.

Miles Russell, with Charlie Woods on the bag, advances to U.S. Open
Russell survived a 3-for-2 playoff and become one of the four golfers advancing. Fellow amateur Giuseppe Puelba and Ben Silverman were co-medalists at 7 under with amateur Ryder Cowan also advancing after surviving the playoff. Falling short were Tyler Collet (6 under; lost in a 3-for-2 playoff), Christiaan Bezuidenhout (5 under), Luke Clanton (4 under), Matt Kuchar (3 under) and Matthieu Pavon (1 under).
Lakes qualifier in Ohio settled after 4-for-3 playoff
Davis Thompson won this qualifer at 11 under while J.B. Holmes (9 under), Vaughn Harber (a) (9 under), Arni Sveinsson (a) (9 under) each advanced after Sam Udovich (a) (9 under) was eliminated in a 4-for-3 playoff. Coming up short were several known names, including Jhonattan Vegas (8 under), Bud Cauley (8 under), Austin Eckroat (8 under), Justin Lower (7 under), Denny McCarthy (5 under), Lucas Glover (5 under) and Erik van Rooyen (2 under).
Amateur Jackson Ormond co-medalist at Gaston qualifier
Univeristy of Florida-bound Jackson Ormand finished tied at the top with Carl Yuan at 12 under, while Jackson Van Paris (11 under), Brandon Wu (11 under) and Cole Hammer (11 under) also made it through. Notables failing to advance were Harry Higgs (10 under), Cristobal Del Solar (10 under), Aaron Wise (7 under), Bill Haas (5 under) and Doc Redman (5 under).
Neal Shipley, Zac Blair co-medalists at Springfield
The Springfield Country Club qualifier is complete. Five golfers advanced from there: Neal Shipley (8 under), Zac Blair (8 under), Dylan Wu (7 under), Billy Horschel (7 under) and Nick Hardy (7 under).
Coming up short were Brandt Snedeker (6 under), Tony Finau (5 under) and Cam Davis (3 over).
Marcelo Rozo finishes top 3, setting up 8-for-3 playoff
Toronto is going to have some bonus golf. Jordan Smith, William Muow, Matt Wallace, John Parry, Patrick Fishburn, Max McGreevy, Max Homa and Adam Svensson finished tied for fourth at 6 under but only three of them can advance to the U.S. Open so it's going to be an 8-for-3 playoff after Emiliano Grillo, Alejandro Tosti and Rozo clinched the first three spots.
Top four in Purchase qualifier have officially advanced
The Purchase, New York qualifier at Century Country Club & Glof Club of Purchase, is the first to post final scores. The top four from this advanced and they are: Kevin Roy (8 under), Max Greyserman (7 under), Ben James (2 under), James Nicholas (2 under). Former LIV golfer Matt Jones (1 under) missed out on forcing a 3-for-2 playoff by a single stroke.
Could it be a 9-for-4 playoff in Toronto?
This is wild at Lambton Golf and Country Club, where Emiliano Grillo (9 under) and Alejandro Tosti (8 under) are both safely advancing but it's a quagmire behind them. There will be six golfers advancing but as of 6:54 p.m. ET, there's a logjam at 6 under between Jordan Smith, William Muow, Matt Wallace, John Parry, Patrick Fishburn, Max McGreevy, Max Homa, Adam Svensson and Marcelo Rozo. Rozo does have two holes left so he could separate himself. Sunset is nearly 9 p.m. in Toronto so there's still plenty of daylight to sort this out.
Miles Russell suffers another late double bogey
But the good news is, he's through 36 holes at 6 under and as of 6:16 p.m. ET, he's at least in a 3-for-2 playoff. There's two golfers at 7 under and this qualifier will only send four through to Shinnecock. On his first 18, he took a 7 on his final hole. On his 35th hole β which was No. 8 because he started on the second nine β he had another double. Now, Russell plays the waiting game.
Amateurs are shining during final qualifying
As of 6:25 p.m. ET, amateurs were leading in four of the 10 sites. At BallenIsles, the top two are ams (see the Russell entry below). That also includes Jackson Ormond, tied for the lead in North Carolina.
Ormond is in at 12 under and could be passed by someone for medalists honors but the big picture is that he's going to advance to the U.S. Open.
WE HAVE A STORY BREWING IN NORTH CAROLINA!

Miles Russell, with Charlie Woods on the bag, tied for lead late
Russell is in the BallenIsles qualifier and shot 71 in his first 18 but is 6 under through 15 in his second 18. This with good buddy Charlie Woods serving as his caddie. Russell is 7 under and tied with two others, including fellow amateur Giuseppe Puebla, for the lead. Puebla is done for the day after shooting 69-68. Ben Silverman is the third co-leader; he's through 10 holes. There will be four golfers advancing out of this qualifier.

It's not over yet but those on the outside looking in are: Nicky Hardy, Billy Horschel and Brandt Snedeker. Also, Taylor Pendrith WD'd earlier.

Early leaders going low
Some early scores are starting to trickle in from east coast sites.
In New York, PGA Tour pro Kevin Roy shot 5-under 67 at CC of Purchase, one better than newly minted pro Ben James, the 22-year-old UVA grad who is seeking a third straight appearance at the U.S. Open.
In Canada at Lambton G&CC, England's Jordan Smith is the leader in the clubhouse with a 5-under 65.
In Florida at Ballen Isle GC, Rick Lamb and amateur Giuseppe Piabla both shot 3-under 69. Miles Russell may better them as he's 4 under through 17.
In Ohio at Springfield CC, Zac Blair posted 66. Tony Flair, his fellow Utah native, is 5 under through 17. Neal Shipley is in the clubhouse with 69.
At the other Ohio site at Lakes G&CC in Westerville, Austin Eckroat is setting the pace after a 66. Will Locey is a shot back.
In North Carolina at Gaston CC, Bryson Nimmer fired a 7-under 63. Harry Higgs is a shot back after 64.
In Maryland at Woodmont CC, Ben Kohles, the winner of the Korn Ferry Tour event on Sunday, picked up where he left off and 5 under through 13.
In Georgia at Hawks Bridge GC, amateurs Brodie Brumlow and Luke Colton are both 5 under with a couple holes to go.
Other sites on the West Coast will be getting going soon.
Rough break for competitors coming from PGA Tour Americas
Flight delays β they happen. But this is a tough break for the seven players who competed in Mexico on Sunday and were trying to make it to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., for 36-hole qualifying. As reported by Brentley Romine of Golf Channel, their flight was expected to land in Miami at midnight but instead touched down at 6:45 a.m., after a medical emergency. Only Chris Nido made his tee time at 9 a.m., and to do so he had to abandon his clubs at the airport and is competing with a set from a friend. He's off to a slow start at 4 over through 10 holes. Tough break for the other six players who had dreams of competing at Shinnecock next week.
Of the seven Americas players who landed at 6:45 this morning in Miami from Mexico, only Chris Nido made his tee time, which fortunately was the last one off 10 at 9 a.m.

There will be no player with the last name of Woods in the field at this year's U.S. Open, which is a shame, but Charlie Woods, son of Tiger, is expected to caddie on Monday for his future Florida State teammate, Miles Russell, according to a report by Golf Channel's Brentley Romine. Russell, 17, is a two-time AJGA Player of the Year and has plenty of experience playing in men's professional events at both the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour. Russell will be competing at Ballen Isles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
