Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes stunningly predicted Super Bowl title in text to wife (original) (raw)

Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is days removed from leading his team to a thrilling overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

With Kansas City down three in overtime, Mahomes and Co. went down the field 75 yards. It culminated in a three-yard walk-off touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman, creating a dynasty with back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

For the Chiefs, this represented an improbable end to a season in which they just didn’t look like themselves. At the very least, on the offensive side of the ball.

Late-season losses to the Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders seeminly had Kansas City as a longshot to repeat as champs. The team then turned it up big time in the playoffs and Super Bowl to shock the world in Las Vegas Sunday night. Apparently, Mahomes himself wasn’t too surprised.

In a text shared by Brittany Mahomes on social media, her husband wrote back on Jan. 5 that “I decided we are going to win the Super Bowl.”

This was two days before Kansas City’s regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers. It was also a bit over a week after the Chiefs fell at home to the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day. At that point, the Baltimore Ravens were seen as the favorites to come out of the AFC.

The rest is pretty much history. Kansas City took out division rivals in that of the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills to open the playoffs. It then defeated the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game before besting San Francisco in Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Right now, Mahomes is flying high following a third Super Bowl title. We should probably listen to him when he makes predictions from here on out.
