Vijay Hazare Trophy: 17-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal - the youngest double centurion in List A cricket (original) (raw)
Seventeen-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal stormed into the record books by smashing a double hundred against Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture in Bengaluru on Wednesday. He became the youngest double centurion in List A cricket.
The Mumbai batsman — who made his List A debut in the ongoing 2019-20 season — has been in fine form. Prior to this match, he had registered two hundreds against Goa and Kerala.
The left-hander reached 200 off just 149 balls (17 fours, 12 sixes).

Jaiswal also became the third batsman — after K.V. Kaushal and Sanju Samson — to smash a double in the domestic one-day cricket tournament. He was eventually caught by Rahul Shukla off Vivek Tiwari for 203 (154).
The knock came against a tight Jharkhand bowling attack comprising pacer Varun Aaron and spinners Anukul Roy and Shahbaz Nadeem.
Son of a shopkeeper in Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh, the youngster had moved to Mumbai for cricketing pursuits.
Initially, he struggled to make ends meet. From being thrown out of a dairy shop (where he would sleep at nights) to living with groundsmen in the Muslim United Club tents in Azad Maidan — he has done it all. He also sold pani puri to make a living.
Later, local coach Jwala Singh helped him stay afloat.
Jaiswal currently lives in a chawl in Kadamwadi in Santacruz but if the bat keeps talking the way it is, he should enter the realm of all things bright and beautiful.
