Nevertheless, it is subject to government oversight, and regulations have been established to guarantee its conduct in a humane and secure manner. This study focused on the factors influencing the community to cockfight and the challenges of police officers in suppressing illegal cockfighting in the municipality of Anao-aon, Surigao del Norte, Philippines. Quantitative-descriptive research design using survey method was used. Participants were 80 residents and 41 police officers chosen purposefully. Researchersmade instrument was utilized which was subjected to validation by experts in the field of criminal justice, language, and research. Mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation were employed to analyze the data after satisfying the normality assumption. Results showed that the residents played cockfight as a source of income and livelihood which provides easy to earn and somehow improve their quality of life. Despite the activity was insufficient to suffice their needs and not all gambling players perceived that gambling activity was a form of investment that could double or triple the money, the cockfight gambling still provides genuine happiness to the residents for this aroused their interest to apply strategies to win. This game changed their negative moods to positive for the actual cockfight gave them pleasure. The activity helped the residents to think critically applying the best strategies to win. Every player had stories of winning and losing the game which served as a lesson learned that built their character and boosted their confidence to invest and continue the game. Moreover, the mountainous location of the gambling venue, lack of cooperation among the residents, billable charges, and political support were the prevailing challenges encountered by the police officers in suppressing illegal cockfight gambling.

More noticeable was the increasing intensity of storms the people have experienced these days. The previous abnormal weather event named Super Typhoon Odette happened last 2021 had brought tremendous damage to lives and infrastructures in Southern Philippines. Regarding infrastructure, seawalls are commonly utilized and dependable solutions for minimizing the effects of wave activity and storm surges in coastal areas prone to windstorms and coastal flooding. Nevertheless, the current design of seawalls frequently fails to offer the desired level of defense, particularly during periods of intense tidal flow. In numerous instances, these structures have adverse effects on the local shoreline ecosystem. This paper focused on the development of an upgraded seawall design in Barangay Cantiasay, Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte. The study applied the descriptive-developmental research design using an adapted research questionnaire validated by 5 experts as a measurement for the evaluation of the acceptability level of the design. Fifteen civil engineers were purposefully and conveniently chosen as participants to evaluate the acceptability level of the proposed design. The results indicated that the proposed design complies with the safety and reliability standards outlined in the National Structural Code of the Philippines 2015. The experts have deemed the structural design and analysis to be acceptable. Overall, the research findings provide evidence of the technical feasibility and acceptability of the proposed design, ensuring the safety and reliability of the structure during extreme weather conditions for the community. Therefore, it is recommended that the local government unit of Surigao City may consider implementing the proposed design to create a physical structure that guarantees the safety of the residents in the future.

As these environmental impacts are growing, there is a pressing need for increased intervention studies to improve water quality. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of granulated activated carbon made from coconut shells in reducing heavy metal levels and enhancing the water quality of Lake Mainit located at Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Norte, Philippines. Silica sand, pumice stones, and white marble chips were added to a glass tank with the granulated activated carbon made from coconut shells. The water sample underwent various laboratory tests. The atomic absorption spectrometry flame technique was used to analyze the heavy metals lead and cadmium. Gravimetric method was employed in total suspended solids and total dissolved solids, and nephelometric method for turbidity. Pre-treated water sample analysis regarding lead, total dissolved solids, and turbidity are within the permissible limits, however, total suspended solids and cadmium concentration surpassed the allowable limits for Class A waters. Removal efficiency in terms of heavy metal concentration and the significant difference of parameters between the water sample before and after intervention were calculated. Results showed that after the intervention, activated carbon made from coconut shells were able to reduce the cadmium level present in the water sample. It also improved the quality of water within permissible limits. Hence, the activated carbon made from agricultural waste such as coconut shells has considerable potential to provide better water quality.

The participants of this study were the two intact classes both mathematics education students enrolled in Calculus class at USTP-CDO Philippines. The study used an adapted instrument on mathematics self-efficacy scale and four researcher-made instruments on problem solving, reasoning, mathematics achievement, and in-depth interview subjected to validity and reliability tests. The quantitative aspect utilized quasiexperimental pretest-posttest control group design with one control group exposed to conventional short-video lectures from YouTube and one experimental group exposed to PhBLVs during asynchronous online classes. An indepth interview followed with 11 participants from the experimental group chosen as informants. The quantitative data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and ANCOVA, while the qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis technique. Quantitative data analysis revealed that students exposed to PhBLVs had significantly higher mathematics self-efficacy, problem-solving and reasoning skills as compared to students exposed to nonphenomenon-based videos. However, the result showed that students' mathematics achievement under control and experimental groups are comparable. This was supported by the results of qualitative data analysis which revealed that students exposed to PhBLVs had remarkable experiences with five key themes emerged: difficulty with problem construction, enhancement of reasoning and problem-solving skills, solving real-world problems relevant to social issues, relating math to real-life contexts, and confusing yet enjoyable activities. This implies that PhBLVs can increase students' mathematics achievement and can significantly influence the mathematics self-efficacy, problem-solving and reasoning skills of students. Hence, the researcher recommends to tertiary mathematics educators to use PhBLVs for Calculus and its related mathematics courses as students are engaged in an inquiry or discovery form of learning cultivating their higher-order thinking skills.

Thus, educators, who are in the frontline in coping up to this ever-changing landscape of education, should also continuously innovate new pedagogy to improve the quality of learning and produce globally competitive individuals. The goal of this research is to design, develop, and validate the phenomenon-based learning videos in Calculus for asynchronous remote instruction. Descriptive research design and a validated researcher-made instrument were used in this study. Thirty mathematics experts in mathematics or mathematics education evaluated the phenomenon-based learning videos based on three categories: subject, content, and technical aspect. Results showed that every indicator under each category is highly acceptable. This implies that the overall design and development of the phenomenon-based learning videos are highly acceptable. Hence, these videos are recommended to be used in Calculus especially in asynchronous remote instruction.
