I just had a denial after my hearing, and the administrative law judge wrote something about migraines not being medically verifiable. Random question... Bare with me here for a bit. When I originally won my disability case way back in the day. I was told that I made more then I am able to receive in Michigan. I think at the time they were saying I was going to get like I dunno 1900butafterIwontheythesaidthelimittowhatyoucangetfromSSDIatthetimewas1900 but after I won they the said the limit to what you can get from SSDI at the time was 1900butafterIwontheythesaidthelimittowhatyoucangetfromSSDIatthetimewas1300 something. And so at that time again I think from my back pay I lost almost like 50,000orsomethingridiculousandIloseabout50,000 or something ridiculous and I lose about 50,000orsomethingridiculousandIloseabout600 dollars every month. I remember asking around then to multiple people at social security on the phone etc and they all said this was true. However recently I heard from a friend that has a friend on disablity and he apparently makes waaaaaaay more than me. So im wondering now did I actually get screwed all those years ago? I won my case basically with just myself I didnt have a lawyer. Or is there a disablity that is higher then SSDI? And if this isnt the case though, what would happen if I move out of Michigan. Are my benefits recalculated and maybe I would get more in a diff state. I hate to say it but im almost getting tired of Michigan and fighting all the time for anything. Earning money online? Hello, I started receiving SSDI in May. I would like to try doing some transcription online through Amazon Mturk. Even if it does work out I don't see myself earning more than 300−500amonthand300-500 a month and 300−500amonthand50-100 would be more likely. Could this cause trouble with my SSDI benefits? asset limits i got a letter today from the county/state saying that my IRA (rolled over 401K) is now over the asset limits. so i guess i either have to cash it out or i lose my Medical Assistance.does anyone have any experience with cashing out IRAs? its $20,000. if i cash it out early, i've heard taxes and penalties will cost me half that amount. thats ten grand i'll lose! and it'll screw up my taxes.i dont know what i'm doing here, and the only advice from the county/state was that if i want to stay on MA, the IRA has to go. help? Anyone tried to get back on SSI? Long story short, I was on SSI a while back, but managed to work full time for a while. Got my benefits messed up, still trying to pay backpay on what I was overpaid, but I'm becoming progressively more disabled again. I had spine surgery in January and am not doing well....working my 20 hour a week job (I'm a doctoral student on top of that, taking the bare minimum number of semester hours) is all I can manage, and I took incompletes for several of my classes this year because I just couldn't do it with pain, nerve issues, cognitive problems related to medications, and resulting mental health problems (on top of a birth defect that wouldn't necessarily qualify me for benefits if I could actually afford to get proper treatment).TL;DR: How hard is it to get back on SSI? Designating a payee and transferring benefits My son is on SSI for mental health issues (he qualified due to bipolar disorder, but has other diagnoses as well). He is 21 years old, lives on his own, and is currently his own guardian/handles his own money/etc.I can go into the long back story if needed, but the short version is that he's made some choices that have created a difficult situation for himself. I'm trying to give him suggestions on what he can do, but there are some things I don't know. I'm hoping someone here has some experience with these issues that they'd be willing to share.1) Making someone else your payee. My son and I have discussed putting me in charge of his money so he won't spend it all before he takes care of necessities. If that's the route we decide to go, what are the steps we need to take?2) Transferring benefits to a different state. We live in Texas. We have a relative in Missouri who has offered to let my son come stay there for a while to get a fresh start. Would my son's SSI move with him, or would he have to reapply there? 2a) My son is also on Medicaid. Disability Tax returns... I think there was once a discussion about this but I forget.. Is it worth it, or does anyone actually bother to do their taxes when there on disability? I know you have to make 25,000 or whatever it was to be taxed in the first place, so it doesnt really matter. Since I dont make anywhere near that much. So I never bother to do it. But is it worth? Do people actually make money back? I get 17,000 from disablity a year about. Would I get money back for doing my taxes? SSI Review When you have your SSI review & they ask if you've worked outside the home, does volunteering count? I just did my review over the phone & I said that I haven't worked. Random but for people that live in michigan.... I dont post here much and well from livejournal itself I havnt met to many people that are sick.. But for the people that do or dont know when i was younger basically my doctors fucked me up and didnt admit it to me till I was dying in the hospital. It was a big mess I found out a lot of my records were messed up, even to the point of UofM faking my signature on papers etc....Well now there is www.myuofmhealth.org . I urge anyone that lives in michigan to sign up for this. I was foolish when I was younger and assumed my doctors were trying to help me and never bothered to look to ask for my test results or what they were saying in records. I guess a easy example would be I was always told I only had IBS, when the whole time my liver had actually been shitting on me and I had been testing positive for corhns. And uofm was just writing in the recrods that I was telling them my only hobbies in life were drinking. =/Anyway this is not super exact as it is, but I was suprised what was actually put up online. Its still missing shit but it has stuff that normally UofM is not super excited about admiting I have after the whole malpractice yadda yadda stuff happened.... Hi, I just joined this community with the purpose of seeking some information, though I'm not sure how active this place is.I am not on any disability and I don't know much about it, either, but I've been looking into it because I am pretty sure I would like to apply. My b/f was on SS disability because he has ocular albinism and is legally blind. The government kicked him off social security because he was making too much money. If they based their assessment on what he made yearly he was not making more money than was allotted but because they assessed it by monthly he did. They now with hold his income tax return as restitution. What legal action should or could be taken in this situation or is he doomed to paying the government back for however long it may take? OK, so story time: I’m on SSI, have been for years, and I have a friend who’s looking to me as an expert/knowledgeable in Disability qualifications. Only problem is I’m only one brain, and she and I are worried that I’m biased because I know her. So I’m looking to you guys for an opinion.Friend is currently on her third try at college, and is finally a last semester Senior. However, she’s in serious danger (according to her) of not passing all/any of her 4 classes because of her extreme depression. She’s unable to get out of bed some days, and thus has missed classes, which lowers her grade by a letter for every day she’s missed (4 in two classes, 3 in one, and 2 in the last). She’s been unable to pull her thoughts together to complete several/some assignments in all of her classes, and is generally doing very poorly, even though she’s very intelligent. When she hasn’t been in school, Friend has been trying to hold down various retail jobs, and usually ends up getting fired or quitting because she’s too depressed to care to work. Friend has been diagnosed w/ Bi-Polar, and has been in the psych ward 2x during the past 5 years. Friend also has a very UNsupportive family, and really is sure how they (or her boyfriend) will react if she even tries for Disability/SSI. So advice there would be a help as well. Social Security Announces 3.6 Percent Benefit Increase for 2012 Cost-of-Living Adjustment is First Since 2009Monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for more than 60 million Americans will increase 3.6 percent in 2012, the Social Security Administration announced today.The 3.6 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will begin with benefits that nearly 55 million Social Security beneficiaries receive in January 2012. Increased payments to more than 8 million SSI beneficiaries will begin on December 30, 2011.Some other changes that take effect in January of each year are based on the increase in average wages. Based on that increase, the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax (taxable maximum) will increase to 110,100from110,100 from 110,100from106,800. Of the estimated 161 million workers who will pay Social Security taxes in 2012, about 10 million will pay higher taxes as a result of the increase in the taxable maximum. Information about Medicare changes for 2012, when announced, will be available at www.Medicare.gov. For some beneficiaries, their Social Security increase may be partially or completely offset by increases in Medicare premiums. The Social Security Act provides for how the COLA is calculated. Insurance question for you guys... If anyone can help thanks..... Note I live in Michigan if that matters... Recently I got some BS in the mail that apparently I make to much money on disablity($1,300)so they are now saying I have to pay for my medicare and medicaid. They gave me some excuse that the limit someone can make on disability to get these for free is 1,200(..−−..)sobecauseimover,theywillnowbetaking1,200(.. -___-..)so because im over, they will now be taking 1,200(..−__−..)sobecauseimover,theywillnowbetaking115 out of my check in the first place for medicare, and now my medicaid is going to be 816dollarsamonth...WTF?Hasthishappenedtoanyonebefore?OhneedImentiontheycanceledmyfoodstampsnowaswell.Sonowimsupposetosomehowstillpayrent,beabletobuyfoodandpayforallmymedicalshit?AndIhavealotofmedicalexspenceseverymonth.Helljustrestatisformyeyesislike816 dollars a month...WTF? SSDI To Me: "Are You Still Disabled?" So the Social Security Administration has decided that they have to re-evaluate whether or not I'm still fully and permanently disabled. This is something that the SSA does regularly, because it's not like permanent disabilities are permanent. The fact that part of Chromosome 5 is missing with me--resulting in an incompletely developed lymphatic system--isn't relevant. Despite the fact that I have a birth defect that took twenty years to kick in and that there is no way to fix this, they still have to double-check.So what's wrong? My doctors will tell them that I'm still disabled, right?Yeah. But I've been freelancing as an editor, working part-time. I haven't made much money--just enough to pad out the Social Security Disability check, pay for some home repairs (you know how stuff breaks at inconvenient times) and pay down some bills that had been hanging over me. I'm still below poverty level; I've checked. But I don't know how the Social Security Administration is going to judge this. I don't know if they'll decide that my getting about $321.00 every couple of months for editing a manuscript (penny a word, half up front, half when the editing's done) is too much money. I mean, I've been low-balling what I charge so as not to screw up the disability check...but...I don't know.I don't get a regular salary that I can count on. Everything is "work when I get work, if I have time and my health can handle it." So if I lose this check, I am beyond fucked. I have nothing to fall back on and no way that I can pay my bills. I'm so scared that there aren't any words.And I feel that this is not fair. I'm still disabled. I'm having more trouble walking, not less. I've been ill almost all summer, thanks to lymphedema and cellulitis. I'm losing strength and I'm losing stamina. I'm trying, but it's HARD.And now this.What really gets me is that the woman who insisted that I make this appointment swore up and down that the little amount of work I was doing wouldn't cost me my check or make it go down any. But that's not what the letter from Social Security says. It says losing my check is at least possible. So who's right?I don't know what I'm going to do if I lose the check. I don't have any options at all, and I have no one to fall back on it. And if I can't pay the bills, I'm going to lose my house, which is the only asset I own.I don't know what to do. Question regarding disability check payment change. My husband has been on SSDI for two years in February and then he will be switching to Medicare. The state or Medicaid is going to be paying his premiums and they said that his payment date would change to the 3rd I believe and will remain that way. Is this true? Also, would that mean since he starts Medicare that his February check would automatically switch to the 3rd?
