Knowledge of the smile pattern which includes smile line, smile curvature, smile arc, labiodental relation, and tooth exposed determines the success of treatment. This is helpful in the diagnosis and treatment planning phases of aesthetic dentistry. Objectives: To determine the smile pattern in aesthetic region and to compare the different smile patterns. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study was done in the department of Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Prosthesis, Universal College of Medical Sciences, Nepal from 15th October 2021 to 15th March 2022. A total number of 355 samples were taken by convenience sampling technique. After receiving participant’s consent, study was carried out using a digital camera. The camera was set to primarily capture the area between nose and chin, with lens parallel to the apparent occlusal plane of the participants. For study purpose, individuals were told to sit an...

INTRODUCTION: Relining refers to resurfacing the tissue side of a denture with new base material ... more INTRODUCTION: Relining refers to resurfacing the tissue side of a denture with new base material to improve adequate adaptation of the tissue surface of the denture base to the bearing foundation. It is a cost-effective means to prolong the service life of the denture. The objective of the study was to determine knowledge, attitude, and practice about relining of complete dentures in clinical practice among Nepalese Prosthodontists. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A questionnaire-based survey was conducted among Nepalese Prosthodontists practicing in Nepal from June, 2021 to August, 2021. A pre-tested questionnaire from a published study was used for the study. A comprehensive, self-administered questionnaire consisting of close-ended questions was mailed to the participants. Data was analyzed using SPSS Ver. 17. Descriptive statistics using frequency distribution and percentage was calculated. RESULTS: Majority 78% knew that relining is the process used to resurface the tissue side of the r...

There are number of clinical dilemma where both the specialties need robust guideline for clinical decision making. The effect of orthodontic force is expressed in different way in different patients and teeth which need to be understood by clinicians. On the contrary, the tooth movement of endodontically involved teeth demands careful evaluation of the tooth and its surrounding tissue, quality of root treatment, presence or absence of peri-apical pathologies, previous history of trauma etc. Management of external apical root resorption following orthodontic therapy might be challenging some time. Orthodontic extrusion of fractured teeth is one of the viable prosthetic rehabilitation options where orthodontic, endodontic and prosthodontics specialties are involved. So this review article will focus on reviewing current level of evidence on orth...

Introduction: The vertical heights and the proportions are very important for balance of the face... more Introduction: The vertical heights and the proportions are very important for balance of the face and attractiveness along with the good smile. Harmonious vertical proportions and the Antero-posterior relations contribute to aesthetics. Therefore it is necessary to determine the vertical facial height and the ratios in treatment planning of the patients. The aims and objectives of this study are to compare the vertical facial heights of patients considering the Lower Anterior Facial Height (LAFH), the Upper Anterior Facial Height (UAFH), Total Anterior Facial Height (TAFH) and Posterior Facial Height (PFH) among the sexes in Class I skeletal group obtained from cephalometric analysis. Materials & Method: The study material comprised of 52 patients (24 males and 28 females) and lateral cephalometric radiographs were traced with Skeletal Class I relationship. Cephalometric analysis was performed by using hand tracing. Independent t tests were used for comparisons. Result: The total anterior facial height (TAFH), lower anterior facial height (LAFH), upper anterior facial height (UAFH), total posterior facial height (TPFH) measurements showed no significant differences between both sexes in Skeletal Class I group but statistically significant difference in ratios of posterior facial height and total anterior facial height and also there was statistically significant differences in the ratio between upper facial height and the total anterior facial height (p value <0.05). Conclusion: This cephalometric analysis can be applied to determine the vertical height of occlusion which can be helpful in prosthetic rehabilitation of edentulous patients.

It demands rehabilitation of the functions with the aesthetics as priority. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the relation between interalar widths and inter canine distance in aid for the replacement of artificial maxillary anterior teeth. This study also assessed the relation of inter alar distance and inter canine distance in different population such as Aryans and Mongoloids. Materials and Methods: To study the relation between interalarwidth and inter canine distance, measurements were taken from 228 subjects. Inter alar width was recorded by digital vernier caliper while the patient made seated on dental chair in a relaxed posture. Inter canine width was measured in the cast with digital vernier caliper. Result: out of 228 participants Gender distribution was 118 males and 110 females where 84 were Mongoloids and 144 were Aryans whose age ranged from 25 to 45 years. This result showed that the males have greater interalar width and inter canine width in compared to females (male: 32.64 ±4.3, female: 30.64± 3.55) and is statistically significant (p <0.05).The mean value of inter alar width and intercanine width was also determined. Mongoloids have wider nose and increased intercanine width than Aryan but not statistically significant. The Pearsons coefficient index "r" showed a large positive correlation between interalar distance and intercanine width and was statistically significant. (r=0.642, p<0.01) Conclusion: The study concluded that inter alar width can be a very useful guideline for the selection and replacement of anterior teeth for edentulous patients in Mongoloid and Aryan population.
