Name: Karam "Soot"
- Many spirits in this part of the world choose a common name they use while traveling since their actual name would seem odd.
Age: 52
- DoB: January 23, 1981
Nationality: Valisian
Socioeconomic level as child: Low
Socioeconomic level as Adult: low
Hometown: Cetillik, Prybourne
Current Residence: The forests of Dormoor
Occupation:
- Muse- A collection of spirits, she embodies the inspiration needed for fine arts. Her talents lie more with painting and drawing than dance or other arts. Fond of children, she prefers to visit them and help them on their journey to becoming fine artists. When one is having an art block, she'll try to soothe it away with waves of creativity.
Income:
- Varies- Creative spirits used to be given tributes in older times. Now, in the modern era, there may be little to none. The children Soot visits are mainly awakening Deitians and young spirits. She'll also visit intelligent animals who have gained the skills needed to create art. The later tends to leave the most offerings consisting of, but not limited to; roasted nuts/seeds, leaf dolls, berries, homemade sweets and change. The former usually leave things such as something Soot helped them learn to make. She has a whole wall in her tree dedicated to the pieces that have been left for her.
Talents/Skills:
- Painting- At first, she used a simple brush made from her own feathers. Tied around a strong birch stick with expertly made cord, it was a trustworthy companion of hers for many years. The strokes were always true, colours vibrantly washed whatever she was painting. When a child in particular began to show spectacular talent, she made a difficult choice. To show her pride, she gifted them with her prized brush. Life went on and she continued teaching. It wasn't until a few years later that her deeds became truely reconized. With every piece she helped children make, more and more inspiration and creativity began to spark in the air. This energy eventually started to collect in a single mass. As time went on, it became more defined so one could make out what it was supposed to be. A brush. The bristles were absolutely livid with colour, glowing with inspiration. The brush was a gift to her from the children she helped become artists.
- Encouraging others- A needed skill for her line of work. It just wouldn't do to have her bashing on a poor kid's first attempt at something, now would it? Instead, she encourages them, nursing their confidence until they're able to stand on their own. When a child thinks they'll never get better and should just stop now, she'll pull them back on their feet and tell them,"Never give up. Everyone starts somewhere and you're a lot farther than nowhere."
- Crafting supplies- Soot's learned through trial and error how to make her own paints. Some things make the paint too dull while others too bright, this plant seems alright mixed with this oil but mix it with another it turns another colour!- the discoveries are endless. A few failed attempts at making one colour actually ended up making another that looked quite nice.
Birth order: First

Parents:
- _Leanna_- A winter spirit, and Soot's mother, they got along rather well. From up north, it's surprising to find her in Valisia of all places. Arid and unbearably hot to most, and almost certaintly to one accustomed to the cold, it's a wonder she's able to survive. She fell in love with a fire spirit while he was traveling the world. She jumped at the chance to travel with him and the rest was history. During their travels, they ended up getting married and moving back to Ciprian's home in Valisia. As soon as she was old enough, Soot took off without a second thought having inherited her mother's curiosity. Leanna would have liked her to stay a bit longer, but supported her after remembering her own adventures.
- Ciprian- A force to be reckoned with, he's a true brawler and adventurer. He tried teaching Soot the basics to defend herself, but it ended up crashing and burning. Not one for the fine arts, he had also tried to pull her astray from her path to follow one he wanted her to. Soot resented this greatly, enthralled with art. It's one of the reasons she left home to explore, but she left that little tidbit out in hopes of pleasing her father.
Grandparents:
- Beilaeg- Soot's never met her grandparents meaning she has very little input on them. Beilaeg was a winter spirit, just like Leanna, and had never left the north. Soot's mother would occasionally mention how she was an owl just like her grandma.
- Ulric- A burly water spirit, he's a fisherman. He's out for months at a time on fishing trips. This made him leave Beilaeg and a young Leanna home alone. So far, he's out lived his wife and has never remarried.
- Unknown relatives- Ciprian isn't very close to his parents therefor Soot doesn't know much about them.
Grandchildren: N/A
Significant other: N/A
Relationship skills:
- Indecisive and fleeting- She really has no time to make any real connections. She would prefer something casual if she were in a relationship and has more acquaintances than friends.
Appearance
Human height: 5'5"
Animal height: 2'3"
Race:
- Wind spirit- The offspring of two different types of spirits usually results in a combination of the two. Soot's parents are a winter, or ice, and fire spirit. This would result in a wind child. Each greater spirit is born when lesser ones gather and collect. These collections of spirits influence the new being to a degree, such as in personality and animal form, but a majority is through the parents or learning experiences. Greater spirits are usually concieved through a mixing of energies, this would allow any female to have a child. This is especially useful because females out number males by quite a bit. Since Wind spirits are known widely for being muses. Each one specializes in a specific art whether it be crafting, painting or singing just to name a few. Their name sake comes from their ability to control the wind to a degree. When a spirit matures, their power manifests in an item. A merchant or crafter might have their power materialize as a pocket watch while a dancer, such as Shadya, might have a dancing ribbon. A spirit's maturity is gauged by their impact in their field. Soot's sign of becoming a full fledged muse was when the creative energy from on the kids she helped formed her brush. Subconsciously, she keeps a little vortex of wind around the bristles to keep it floating. They also have the ability to access an animal form. The area where a spirit is born and the spirits that made them up usually determines what they'll look like. Since Soot was originally a conglomeration of mostly winter sprites, she took on a form more suited for cold weather. It was a pain during the day, but she was greatful for it at night because the temperature drops drastically. Young wind spirits tend to flit between their human and animal forms. As they get older though, they start to stick more and more towards one form. Soot is particularly partial to her animal form, but occasionally switches if an owl's body can't do something.
Eye colour:
- _Gold_- iris
- _Black_- pupil
Fur/feather colour:
- White- Feathers for wings, main body and head/ Fur for tail and legs
- Black- Beak, talons, tip of tail and splatter like markings on tail and wrist of wings
Hair colour:
- White- Hair colour is same colour in human form as her base feathers
Glasses or contact lenses: N/A
Skin colour:
- Pale- Having inherited her mother's genes the most, her skin is pale and more suited for the cold up north. She tends to burn like a lobster when out for too long without protection.
Shape of face:
Distinguishing features (H/A):
- (A) Abnormal tail- Not quite the standard issue for an owl, this trail of fluff makes her stand out from the rest. Made out of fur instead of feathers, it made it difficult to move around at first. Now, she's a pro at making sure her tail doesn't get stuck on anything.
- _(A) Wings_- Another oddity, her wings weren't built for flight. Instead, four feathers make a pseudo thumb and fingers. These allow her to paint with ease.
- (A) Paint splatters- A few of those splatters of hers are actually markings while the rest are really just from her brush. She was testing out a new paint with her brush when it suddenly when kablewie! Turns out her new, glowing brush doesn't mix very well with certsin types of paints.
- (H) Bird skull headdress- A representation of her bird form, the feathers on it are mostly pure white with a few dusted with black. In the middle of the row of feathers, there's one that is the same striking gold as her eyes. Occasionally, she'll paint a pattern on it with easy to wash off paint.
- (H) Tattoo- A black water droplet in the middle of her shoulder surrounded by two symmetrical hoops and three hoops on her forearm consists of her tattoos. Excluding the droplet, her tattoos change colour depending on her emotions just like her paint brush and glow. They also tell how much lifeforce she has. When each ring becomes black she'll die.
How does he/she dress?
- Ribbed shirt- Made out of a thin material, it's much better suited for the weather back home. Though, living in Dormoor at the moment, she wished it was a bit thicker at times. The sleeves are cut into arches that start at her shoulder and end at her elbow. In the middle of each they're coloured black to mimic the tips of her feathers. Her own bit of craftyness, the collar has way too much material to it and crooked sewn on. It's a miracle the fabric is even a matching black and not that odd blue-black. It was her attempt at making a scarf while not quite making a scarf to help keep the chill down when outside.
- Skull headdress- To keep with her owl theme, her garb for her human for includes a bird skull. Black and white feathers stick out the back of it and gold writing scrawled on it.
- Puffy shorts- Probably not her best fashion choice. She picked them up in a place while traveling where she really enjoyed the fashion. The locals could pull it off, but her not so much. Sometimes, she uses them as an excuse not to be in her human form.
- Jangly stuff- She just loves the way they cling and clang. There's nothing better. They're mostly attached to the end of her shorts, but she also has bracelets and tassels that she wears on occasion.
Mannerisms:
- Shakes her feathers when telling a lie
- Puffs out the feathers on her chest and around her neck when agitated
- Keeps her arms/wings to her side whole talking
- Tends to dip and bow her head to emphasize words
- Leaves her brush lying around her tree hallow in random places
- Clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth
- Hoots when not thinking about it
- Desk is very cluttered and never bothers cleaning up paint
- Shoves papers wherever
- Preen her feathers when nervous
Habits:
- Counting- A method to calm herself down, she often preen her feathers at the same time. She does it to tune things out and think about what just happened. If someone asked her how many feathers she had she could probably tell them the exact number.
- A glass of fruit wine at night- Just a little guilty habit of hers. She sticks to the light stuff, but there's just something about a nice glass to end the day. She ferments it herself In a special hallow in her tree.
- Getting covered in paint- Soot doesn't bother being neat while painting. Instead, she usually gets her feathers smothered in her neon paints. This made her have to find ways to make paints that easily washed off of feathers, but kept it's vibrant colours when splattered on paper.
- Tapping her brush on stuff- An absent minded tick, she usually has to catch herself to stop from knocking over her paints and wash cup. While walking next to a wall with a gate, she loves to drag the end of her brush against it to hear the noise.
- Collecting pillows-
Health:
- Physically- She's no body builder that's for sure. She has a relatively healthy diet and does enough traveling to keep fit.
- Mentally- As bright as can be, there's no problems to be seen. She has a bit of a confidence issue with her art though.
Favorite sayings:
- "Everyone's just an artist in waiting."
- "Don't give up now!"
- "Oh... I don't think paint is supposed to do that."
- "I wish I may, I wish I might... stop quoting Dragontails."
- "Whooo goes there... Get it? Whooo."
- "Despite being an owl I don't actually give a hoot."
- "Does it look like I can fly!?"
- "No that's not paint- okay maybe it is."
- "This is why I never have guests."
- "Make yourself at home. The pillows are my spot though. No touchy."
Speech patterns:
- Talks a mile a minute unless trying to sooth an upset child
- Frequently pauses in the middle of sentences
- Makes clicking noises sometimes (bird version of a lisp)

Character's short-term goals in life:
- Creating better paints-
- Making kits for aspiring artists-
Character's long-term goals:
- Teaching as many children as possible-
- Improving her own art-
How does the character see herself?
- Passionate and helpful-
How does the character believe she is perceived by others?
- Bubbly and kind-
How self confident is the character?
- Art- Her pride and joy. There's nothing she loves more. Other than teaching others her skills.
- Physical strength- While an owl, she's relatively weak. Even while in her human for she isn't all that strong, but at least she can lift boxes. If anything ever ce to a physical contest, she would automatically forfit to hope for some kind of pity.
- Speaking to others- An enjoyable skill, she can talk someone's head off.
Does the character seem ruled by emotion or logic or some combination therof?
- Pure emotion- She seemingly has no logic at all. As long as something tugs at her heart strings she'll do it.
What would most embarrass this character?
- A flaw being found in her art- Extremely prideful in her work, Soot can't help but cringe when some thing's pointed out.
