An image processing method has been developed for processing multiple images of x-ray micro-radio... more An image processing method has been developed for processing multiple images of x-ray micro-radiography. An x-ray micro-radiography image reflects quantum mottle so that its information content may tends to be corrupted. Therefore, a digital processing method has been developed to reduce the effect of quantum mottle as well as reducing the noise level. A set of radiographs are collected then summed. An image subtraction by a background image is carried out prior to the summation process. The signal to noise ratio (SNR) and contrast to noise ratio (CNR) after processing are compared with the SNR and CNR prior to the processing. As a result the final image for small specimen under x-ray micro-radiography inspection is better than original image without processing based on SNR and CNR assessments.

This paper presents the potential of limestone based catalyst for transesterification of high fre... more This paper presents the potential of limestone based catalyst for transesterification of high free fatty acid (FFA) rubber seed oil (RSO). Pre-calcinated limestone known as clinker was activated using methanol and transesterification was performed under reflux with constant stirring. Mineral composition of the catalyst was analysed using x-ray fluorescence (XRF) with in build x-ray diffraction (XRD). The rubber seed oil was obtained using both microwave and soxhlet extraction using hexane as solvent. FFA content and fatty acid methyl ester content were determined using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed an efficient conversion (up to 96.9%) of high FFA rubber seed oil to biodiesel. The results suggest that the catalyst employed in this work is not negatively affected by moisture and free fatty acids and can be recycled very easily without significant loss in its activity. The highest conversion of 96.9% was achieved from catalyst activated at 700°C, with catalyst loading of 5 wt. %; methanol to oil molar ratio of 4:1; reaction temperature of 65°C and reaction time of 4 hours. The biodiesel produced in this work is within the limits of specification described by American standard test method (ASTM D6751).

Puji syukur penulis panjatkan ke hadirat Allah SWT, karena dengan rahmat, dan hidayah-Nya penulis... more Puji syukur penulis panjatkan ke hadirat Allah SWT, karena dengan rahmat, dan hidayah-Nya penulis dapat menyelesaikan Penelitian yang berjudul " POLA KOMUNIKASI JARAK JAUH ANTARA ORANG TUA DENGAN ANAK " Yang melatar belakangi penulis mengambil judul ini karena pada umumnya anak dengan orang tua dan berhubungan dekat atau sering berkomunikasi tatap muka karena tinggal dalam satu rumah. Tetapi lain halnya dengan orang tua dan anak yang tidak tinggal serumah atau tinggal berjauhan karena perbedaan jarak dan tempat. komunikasi dilakukan menggunakan media seperti telepon tidak berkomunikasi secara tatap muka. komunikasi jarak jauh ini menimbulkan masalah yaitu komunikasi yang terjalin menjadi efektif atau tidak efektif lagi karena komunikasi kurang antara orang tua dan anak menimbulkan hubungan emosional yang tidak terjalin lagi dengan baik dan kedekatan yang berkurang karena hubungan yang renggang karena kurangnya berkomunikasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini bisa disimpulkan bahwa pola komunikasi antara informan anak dengan informan orang tua maupun sebaliknya pola komunikasi antara informan orang tua dengan informan anak berdasarkan tipe keluarga antara lain; tipe keluarga karier, tipe keluarga protektif, tipe keluarga gaptek, dan tipe keluarga broken home. Terdapat hambatan-hambatan yang mempengaruhi pola komunikasi seperti; hambatan ekonomi, waktu, profesi, dan jaringan komunikasi. Hambatan-hambatan inilah yang mempengaruhi komunikasi tidak berjalan dengan baik.Pola komunikasi antara informan anak dengan informan orang tua maupun sebaliknya berdampak terhadap hubungan antara informan anak dengan informan orang tua menjadi erat atau renggang.

The widespread use of the Internet and the convenient mechanism it provides, such as easy access,... more The widespread use of the Internet and the convenient mechanism it provides, such as easy access, easy downloads, and easy copy and paste functions have made many types of unethical behaviors easier, particularly those involving students in academic settings. Among the issues in ethics within the academic environment that can be triggered by the Internet are fraudulence, plagiarism, falsification, delinquency, unauthorized help, and facility misuse. Given these issues, the study seeks to investigate the extent to which students at a public university in Malaysia engage in such unethical behavior and their relationship with the big five personality model. This study was conducted using a survey method of 252 students in three different academic faculties. The results of factor analyses confirm and refine the reliability of the scales for both big five personality variables and unethical Internet behaviors as conceptualized through Internet triggered academic dishonesty (ITADS). The findings indicate that personality traits such as (1) agreeableness, (2) conscientiousness and (3) emotional stability are significantly and negatively correlated with unethical Internet behavior in university students. Significant differences in facility misuse are also observed between the three academic faculties investigated. This research should provide significant contributions to educators in designing the computer ethics curriculum and in allowing for educational institutions as well as other organizations in developing relevant policies and guidelines on matters pertaining to academic conduct, utilization of computers and Internet, and recruitment exercises.

Limestone has been proven effective in removing metals from water and wastewater. A literature re... more Limestone has been proven effective in removing metals from water and wastewater. A literature review indicated that limestone is capable of removing heavy metals such as Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, Ni, Cr, Fe and Mn are through a batch process or by filtration technique. The removal capability is reported at up to 90%. However, to date most of the studies have been focused on synthetic wastewater. The present study attempts to investigate the suitability of limestone to attenuate total iron (Fe) from semi aerobic leachate at Pulau Burung Landfill Site in Penang, Malaysia. Iron was found in significant quantities at the landfill site. The study also aims to establish the Fe isotherm and breakthrough time of the proposed limestone filter for post-treatment to the migrating landfill leachate before its release to the environment. The Fe isotherms were established using a batch equilibrium test, while the breakthrough characteristics were determined using continuous flow permeating through a limestone column. The latter was used in order to simulate the continuous flow of leachate that would occur in the proposed limestone filter. The limestone media used in the experiment contain more than 90% CaCO 3 with particle sizes ranging from 2 to 4 mm. Four filter columns (each 150 mm in diameter and 1000 mm depth) were installed at the landfill site. Metal loadings were kept below 0.5 kg /m 3 day and the experiment was run continuously for 30 days. Initial results indicated that 90% of Fe can be removed from the leachate based on retention time of 57.8 min and surface loading of 12.2 m 3 /m 2 day. For the batch study on the Fe isotherm, the results indicated that limestone is potentially useful as an alternative leachate treatment system at a relatively low cost. #
