It was an inspired course and a privileged learning opportunity at a time when the environment and development were largely considered to be luxury issues by those with no motivation to improve global equity and life quality. Sandy seeks to improve the built environment through research, education and consultancy. In particular, she tries to promote construction ecology through advocacy, informed project management, interdisciplinary design and community engagement as a means of delivering quality buildings that spare other species, are efficient, healthy, affordable, and fit for individuals and communities now and in the future. Sandy considers heartening the increasing understanding of appropriate development and design quality as fundamental aspects of social justice. She had humble beginnings.
