Where such shared access is achieved we find differences in the meanings of the terms used to describe the data (the metadata or schemas) and the terms used in the data themselves: the descriptors, the names, the classifiers, and also in the data structures, i.e., the hierarchies, the scope and the level of detail represented in the data files. We present a means to interoperate when terminologies differ by presenting an algebra over ontologies. Those ontologies cover terms used in the descriptive metadata and within the data files themselves. Use of the concepts in our approach involves two phases: compiling the terminological matches, using expert-mediated tools, and executing interoperation processes, focused on a specific application subsequently.

The conflict that can arise between these two aspects is examined. The resulting problems of information loss and locality loss are considered.<<ETX>>

What kind of solution do you resolve the problem? From what sources? Well, there are so many questions that we utter every day. No matter how you will get the solution, it will mean better. You can take the reference from some books. And the advanced software applications in japan is one book that we really recommend you to read, to get more solutions in solving this problem.

But often the data is biased or incomplete, covering what is available. Few analysts will research the origins and readers will trust the results. Bad advice can be the outcome.

In addition to providing definitions, the document also includes separate explanations of many of the defined concepts. Two sets of criteria are included. First, all included concepts were required to satisfy four relevance criteria, and, second, the naming of the concepts was resolved using a set of evaluation criteria. The concepts are grouped into three categories: concepts of general database interest, of temporal database interest, and of specialized interest. This document is a digest of a full version of the glossary 1 . In addition to the material included here, the full version includes substantial discussions of the naming of the concepts. The consensus effort that lead to this glossary was initiated in Early 1992. Earlier status documents appeared in March 1993 and December 1992 and included terms proposed after an initial glossary appeared in SIGMOD Record...

Earlier programs that ledto the concept of mediation were either constructed to support specific applicationsor provided extended services from databases. Intelligent mediators are being builtnow by careful domain knowledge acquisition and hand crafting the required code. In this paper we present the conceptual underpinning for automating the mediationprocess. Automation does not ...

Academic, industrial, and governmental sites were visited.
The primary findings are that Japan is supporting its academic research establishment poorly, that industry is making progress in key areas. and that both academic and industrial researchers are well aware of current domestic and foreign technology
Information sharing between industry and academia is effectively supported by
governmental sponsorship of joint planning and review activities and enhances technology transfer
In two key areas, multimedia and object-oriented databases, we can expect to see
future export of Japanese database products, typically integrated into larger systems
