I know that the Stasheff community has been in hiatus for a while now. And being the creator of this community I take responsibility for the hiatus. My reason for this hiatus is because until now it was just to painful for me to even see this community on my LJ page let alone post something to it. Why you ask. because the woman who inspired me to create this community for stasheff fans is no longer with us. it has been almost a year since she passed from this plain and I still feel her absence. She inspired me and others so much in so many things. But I know she would have wanted this community to continue. she enjoyed every stasheff book she ever read.

Ladragon is gone but she will never be forgotten.

The Saddest Book I have ever read. I finally got my very own copy of warlock's Last Ride and I have only gotten about half way through it I had to stop reading it for a while I just couldn't take crying that much anymore. I think this is the saddest book I have ever read. I do plan on finishing it but it is definitley going to take me a while to get all the way through it.

Success! After 6 years of constant nagging I finally convinced my friend to read the first book in the Warlock series. She's completely hooked now and keeps raiding my bookcases for more Stasheff novels. This is really exciting because now when I'm not on the computer I will have someone to talk to about one of my favorite authors. The only problem I have now is not spoiling the end on her!

And All Good Things... Well, that was rather upsetting. I got to say goodbye to one of my favorite sci fi characters. Rodney D'Armand, also known as Rod Gallowglass. I discovered this series when I was still in High School. Christopher Stasheff, the author of the Warlock books, which features Rod as the main character, has decided to do the final book in the series. It's called Warlock's Last Ride. Many fun things have come out of this series that have become commonplace in my life. I carry around a little yellow screwdriver, and pray to St Vidicon of the Cathode, asking him to intervine with Murphy for me, because of this series. I rediscovered Shakespear throught this series. Alright to give you the basics of the series. Rodney D'Armand IV, he has various middle names, but Christopher has never exactly told us what they all are, is a special agent for SCENT. SCENT stands for Society for the Conversion of Extraterrestrial Nascent Totalitarianisms, a secret organization that sends it's agents out to the lost colonies to promot democracy. Rod and his Faithful Cybernetic Companion, Fess for short find Gramarye. A small colony of crackpots, based off of the SCA. So he's a high tech guy in this medieval society, that has honest to god witches, werewolves, elves..if it's mythical it's there. It is their job to make Gramarye into a Constitutional Monarchy.
Through Rod and Fess, i was able to rember what a capacitor was in my physics class my senior year of highschool. Fess isn't just any faithful cybernetic companion, he's got a weak capacitor, that when he calculates too much data at the same time, does the equivalant of a robotic epilepic seizure.
I am very sorry to see this series end finally. But it has had a good run, from the Warlock in Spite of Himself, where we first met Rod and Fess to Warlock's Last Ride, when we say goodbye to them both.

"All the smooth glossy robots in the galaxy, and I get stuck with an epilepic!"
Rodney D'Armand IV, aka Rodney Gallowglass, Lord High Warlock of Gramarye

This was one of the first entries in my Live Journal. And I felt it appropriate to post it again in the Stasheff community.

Warlock's Last Ride I cried. I cried and I cried..and then I laughed. And then I cried again. And then I cheered...and then I cried again...and finally...I'm an emotional basket case. Just like i knew I would be. Once again, Christopher Stasheff didn't hold anything back. The rollercoaster ride as we followed Rod, Fess and Gwen, lovely gwen..beloved gwen on their last ride was well worth it. I am not going to say any more, because i do not wish to spoil the moment for any one else in the group who will be reading the final adventure of such a beloved character and his family. Just remember that you will need tissues and don't read it in public. Enjoy the Last Ride everyone..for it is surely the greatest ride of all for Rodney D'Armand Gallowglass, Lord High Warlock.

The Warlock's Last Ride For anyone interested, I just found this today:

The Warlock's Last Ride

From the Publisher
THE FINAL ADVENTURE IN THE PHENOMENAL SERIES After an incredible 35-year run, the story of Rod Gallowglass β€” The Warlock in Spite of Himself β€” comes to its fantastic finale in the weird and wonderful world of Gramarye. When Gwendolyn β€”the witch-wife of Rod Gallowglass, the Lord High Warlock of Gramarye β€” suddenly dies, she leaves behind a husband dangerously unhinged by grief and a land without a Protector.

Joining At least I hope this is a successful joining to this unique society of Stasheff fans. I've been a fan for a long time. (he would not appreciate my saying how long)Suffice it to say I raised my children on the original Warlock series and now intend to introduce them to my grandchildren. I thought for a long time my daughter would name her firstborn Cordelia, alas her husband objected and the childs a boy. Well more later, Ne

Music.... I was wondering, has any one ever thought of what music would match a book? I know of two songs out there that i consider to be Gallowglass songs. Wanted Dead or Alive from Bon Jovi and Unreal Estate by Cecilia Eng. Wanted Dead or Alive is so very much Rod, there is no doubt about it. And Unreal Estate is this really great filk song about an asteroid off the beaten path that is for sale. It so sounds like Maxima, it isn't funny. It has this really great line about it 'the asteroid having lost of Silicon, think of the market in computer chips alone..' Just wondering any one's take on that.

Hi everyone! Well I''m new to this group, obviously. Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Jenni, or as my livejournal name suggests OnKloudNyne. Feel free to call me either. I absolutely adore Christopher Stasheff, as most people in this group probably do. Let's see... my favorite book by him is

Escape Velocity

but as a whole series my favorite is A Wizard in Rhyme/The Rhyming Wizard. I'm impatiently waiting his next installment of The Crusading Wizard... when are Magnus and Alea going to get together already? Also, about

The Warlock's Last Ride

, I nearly cried when I found out it was the last adventure of Rod Gallowglass. After reading so many stories about him and his family it's going to be hard to say goodbye. Well I guess that's all for now!

Casting for characters for movie ok, I saw this done in another community and I thought it would be fun to find out who you would cast to play the main characters in any of Christopher Stasheff's books. Please let me know and I will take the most popular answers and put them together for our dream cast of a movie based on christopher stasheff's books. Thanks Andrea

ok, I recently had the good fortune to actually meet Christopher Stasheff in person. He was really nice, and a great conversationilist. I also got to hear him read an excerpt from his new book, it unfortunatley will be the last book for the warlock series, not the warlock heir series but it ties into those series as well.I also found out from the horses mouth as it where that he has plans to write a new novel for the Starship Troupers series, yay.
