In particular, it seeks to identify whether the performance of student-managed funds is inferior to professionally-managed funds. The results suggest that professionally-managed funds may perform better than student managed funds, but this difference disappears when comparing investments made 7 or more years ago-a typical holding period for a VC firm. Pedagogical benefits of having a student-managed fund are discussed, and guidelines of implementing a student-managed VC fund are derived.

Patients referred to a rural pediatric cardiology outreach clinic were examined in person by a pediatric cardiologist. A second pediatric cardiologist who had no knowledge of the findings of face-to-face examination reevaluated the same patients utilizing a 768-Kbps telemedicine system. Any additional testing was performed by personnel who had no knowledge of the face-to-face evaluation. The main outcome measures included the final cardiac diagnosis, frequency of additional tests such as electrocardiography, (ECG) echocardiography (ECHO), and patient satisfaction. The diagnosis was agreed upon in 19 of the 21 patients studied. Two patients with small ventricular septal defects were missed during the telemedicine evaluation. The utilization rates of additional studies for both the face-to-face cardiologist and the telemedicine cardiologist were not significantly different. Patient satisfaction with the telemedicine encounter was good. Telemedicine appears to be effective and useful for the cardiac evaluation of pediatric patients. In spite of high data-transfer rates, differences between telemedicine and face-to-face patient encounters were observed.

However, this view of teaching as primarily an individual activity belies the reality of modern, collaborative educational practices that most significantly impact student learning. In this study, we examine elementary teachers' perspectives on common collaborative practices and discuss what teachers believe are the biggest benefits of and barriers to teacher collaboration. The results from this investigative survey suggest that although teachers do not regularly participate in many collaborative activities, they believe that collaboration is valuable and an effective use of their time.

Depending on the context, these concepts may evoke many images and have multiple definitions. In this paper, we examine what it means to be a professional and to exhibit professionalism in the field of education. We go beyond theoretical definitions of teacher professionalism to explore what it means on a practical level. Specifically, we use focus group interviews to ask inservice teachers what they believe are the basic qualities of professional teachers and what aspects of professionalism ideal teachers exhibit. According to teachers in this study, professionalism is exhibited in many ways and encompasses both attitudes and behaviors.
