The impacts of climate change are already being felt. In particular, the harmful effects of climate change have resulted in an unprecedented ecological crisis in recent times that have not only affected countries across the globe but also threatened the existence of planet earth. Climate change is as a result of human misuse of the natural world and many schools of thought are arguing for ecological and climate change adaptation (Mark Pelling, 2011). This paper argues that it is not too late to reverse the effects of human activity on the ecology. In aligning itself with multi-sectoral approaches being sought for an eco-friendly existence, this paper puts John’s Gospel to accountability and the Bible by extension for the way in which it has colonised the ecosystem. Furthermore, it adds a biblical voice into the whole debate by retrieving th...

Whereas their contributions to the presence and the growth of the church cannot be underestimated, the legacy and validity of their hermeneutics in post-colonial contexts (Kenya) remain questionable and wanting. This is so because of its failure to adequately address the dire existential and contextual concerns of communities of faith in their commitment to serve prophetically. Fostered during colonial era, the hermeneutics give peripheral attention to glaring social economic and political distresses affecting the majority of people while a few, mostly rich and powerful live in unmerited affluence. For recourse, this paper deems postcolonial frameworks of interpretation as appropriate for reading scriptures anew. To demonstrate its efficacy, it e...

Terrorism is currently the world’s major threat to peace. Unfortunately, terrorism is increasingly being linked to religious radicalism than to any other ideology, economic, political or any other. The solutions being offered for terrorism in the world scene are mainly military interventions. Unfortunately, many of these methods have not turned to religious text for solutions. Noting this gap, this paper aims at evaluating the usefulness and usability of the Bible in countering the ideology of religious radicalism. By employing library research, this paper uses postcolonial biblical hermeneutics to orientate the gospel of Mark to terrorism studies paying particular attention to its theme of discipleship. Data is analysed through exegesis and philosophical analysis to conclude that religious radicalism is not a preserve of one religion but cuts across all religions and one religion’s resources can overtly be useful...

The objective of the study was to examine the influence on teachers’ competence on the success of Sunday-school as a mission field at A.I.C Bondeni in Nakuru County, Kenya. The reading resists John's propagation of his constructed society and the identities that he allocates the Pharisees. The ultimate goal of this reading is therefore, to contest by redeeming the identities of the Pharisees which are quite submerged in John's gospel. This is also done as a deliberate invitation to deviations from the conventional and partisan ways of profiling people and othering that are sustained by uncritical usage of the Bible especially in societies that celebrate difference. The current reading therefore, considers the Pharisees as men who not only consult Jesus but also obey Jesus' opinion concerning the whole matter. It is an invitation to decolonized dimensions of achieving peaceful coexistence.
