W niniejszym opracowaniu podjęto próbę charakterystyki i usystematyzowania wyżej wspomnianych zagadnień w odniesieniu do krajowych warunków rehabilitacji i sportu osób niepełnosprawnych fizycznie. Słowa kluczowe: osoby niepełnosprawne fizycznie, rehabilitacja, sport wyczynowy, adaptowana aktywność fizyczna, sport adaptowany, sport rekreacyjny The value of sport in the rehabilitation of persons with physical disabilities Summary The value of sport in the rehabilitation of persons with physical disabilities has been changing over the years. Initially, sport played a role mainly in functional improvement of persons with musculoskeletal disorders. Then, a competitive sport for persons with disabilities has developed, including the Paralympic one in which the most outstanding athletes with physical disabilities in the world can compete with each other. Competitive sport, by formal (sports associations, event calendar, game rules, etc.), is now the most fully formed form of physical activity performed by persons with physical disabilities. The development of specialized sports equipment has also enabled the development of sport in the form of recreation, so that more and more people with disabilities can actively spend their free time, both in summer and winter. Today, all these forms of sport for persons with disabilities develop in the movement known as adapted physical activity, which has grown on the basis of centuries of tradition and experience with the use of movement as a means to support and improve human development. In the paper, an attempt was made to provide characterization and systematization of the above-mentioned issues in relation to national rehabilitation conditions and sport for persons with physical disabilities.

This study assesses and compares the mental health status of people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) in Poland during the second wave of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic (November 2020) to a similar group whose mental health status was examined in November 2017. It also analyzed the psychological resources such as self-efficacy and health locus of control (HLC) and their relationship to mental health in both groups. Methods. Cross-sectional study included two groups of PwMS with 113 respondents each. The respondents completed the General Health Questionnaire-12 and questionnaires for assessing self-efficacy and HLC. The clinical and demographic data of participants were also collected. Results. No differences in mental health status were observed between the studied groups. A hierarchical regression model of the group studied in 2020 revealed that general self-efficacy (β = −0.21, p = 0.032), HLC—internal (β = −0.21, p = 0.035), and education (β = −0.18, p =...

Moreover, we verified if the levels of aggressiveness and anger presented by the athletes and their roles in the team influenced the incidence and severity of the injuries. The study involved 14 male players, members of the Polish National Wheelchair Rugby Team. During a 9-month period, the athletes participated in up to 9 training camps and 4 Wheelchair Rugby tournaments. The study was based on the Competitive Aggressiveness and Anger Scale, registry of sports injuries consulted and non-consulted with a physician and a demographic questionnaire. The following observations were made during the 9-month period corresponding to a mean of 25 training and tournament days: 1) wheelchair rugby players experienced primarily minor injuries (n=102) that did not require a medical intervention, 2) only four injuries needed to be consulted by a physician, 3) sports injuries occurred ...

Mental state was described by: athletic identity, self-esteem, self-efficacy for sports, hope for success, fear of failure, anxiety, and expectancy of success. Correlation analyses were made for all four boccia classes (BC1, BC2, BC3, and BC4) and revealed that only athletic identity was associated with sport result in class BC4. Four hierarchical multiple regression models (for BC1, BC2, BC3, and BC4 boccia classes) were created, with sport result as the dependent variable. Only the BC4 model was significant and included athletic identity, anxiety, self-efficacy for sports, and expectancy of success, which explained 49% of variance in sport result. BC4 class results indicate that psychological variables have a potential impact on sport performance in boccia, and the type and level of disability should be taken into account.

It can be concluded that wheelchair rugby is a discipline associated with a high incidence of minor injuries that do not require a medical intervention. The incidence rate of injuries during the analyzed period was 0.3 per athlete per training day.
