The following is one function of a history major. I hope you enjoy it.
The Fiction: Jose Gaspar was a feared and dreaded pirate who plied the waters of the gulf from his base in Tampa Bay. There is a parade called Gasparilla in which this is commemerated every year.
The Reality: The good people of Tampa Bay unwilling to subject themselves to more mundane means of economic sustenance would periodically put out the local lighthouse lights and loot the cargo of ships that would crash upon the rocks. There are 3 parades called Gasparilla. 1 for children in which they are taught how to participate in Mardi Gras type events. 1 which is shown to the public on an afternoon 1 week later. Similar to Mardi Gras, less vomit, more nudity. There is also the Night parade which we know well enough to keep to ourselves thank you very much.
Happy Gasparilla me hearties.
Mine.
I'm gonna be in baltimore this weekend. I like you people so if this is a convenient opportunity for us to engage in social interaction then I feel…
