According to literature, high levels of regional entrepreneurship are essential to unleash these changes. This research proposes an integrated model of determinant factors that stimulate entrepreneurial activity and economic development. This model consists of institutional, economic and social determinants. Data were collected through 189 questionnaires to nascent entrepreneurs. Significant correlations were found between the determinants model and entrepreneurial activity. The results of this research provide useful tools for designing public policies to stimulate entrepreneurship and economic development. It also provides researchers with a basis for further studies to determine the effectiveness of the integration of elements that encourage entrepreneurial activity.

The research answers two questions: what the prevalent governance practices of Not-for-Profit Service Organizations (NPSO) are, and whether there is a crossover among NPSO governance practices and For-Profit-Organization theories in the literature.

Since, by definition, patents are valuable and rare, here we test the extent to which patent citations and claims capture, respectively, inimitability and non-substitutability. Focusing on 85 publicly traded pharmaceutical firms (SIC 2834), we find that once the effects of firm size, past performance, and investment in innovation are held constant, inimitability is significantly related to firm profitability and new product introductions. Non-substitutability is significantly related to new product introductions only.
