Due to dearth of employment opportunities and caste-based livelihood barriers, the scheduled caste people of Bargarh district migrate heavily to other states and to other districts of the same state for a period of about six to seven months. Children are one of the most affected sections of the seasonal migration. The present study makes an analysis of children’s situation of the migrant families both at the place of origin and place of destination. The study shows that the children who are left behind in the village are neglected, face educational hurdles and sometime remain engaged in economic activities at an early age and eke out hard for a living. The migrant children lead a sub-standard living in unhygienic environment and are exploited by the employer being engaged in work in odd hours of the day. This weak correlation between economic growth and food security in India has forced people to migrate from rural to urban areas. Using primary data collected from 60 youth migrants in Bargarh district of western Odisha, India, this paper examines the linkage between food insecurity and temporary migration. The results indicate that, food insecurity which is asso-ciated with household's limited handholding or no lands plays an important role in the migration decision process, which is characterized by aspirations, planning and final decision to migrate. Migration has become a key component of livelihood strategies for an increasing number of rural households in the region.

The conditions associated with their migratory life style such as discontinuity in education, social and cultural isolation, strenuous work at the place of destination, extreme poverty and poor health impose multiple obstacles to have access to quality education. Lacks of proper educational infrastructure, poor maintenance, lack of seriousness towards the issue are some of the key problems both at the place of origin and at the place of destination which stand as barrier to quality education. The children are deprived of quality education and become bonded to 'low-skill-low-wage' trap which their parents are already in. There is an urgent need of documenting migrant children and creating opportunity to have access to quality education for the development of a child labour free healthy society.

But the ground reality in India is different than the ideal situation as described in democracy of India. The women are more visible excluded from the political scenario and affairs of the country. In spite of many policies meant to exist for women participation in politics, the political participation of women at the local level is abysmally low in Odisha. In comparison to men, the participation of women in two key areas like policy formulation and decision-making processes is very low. The existing principle of gender equality endorsed by the constitution of India is yet to be translated fully into reality. The women of Odisha are proportionally underrepresented in the political forum at national and state level. The Indian society has not been successful to denounce discrimination against women on the basis of stereotypical gender norms and roles and Odisha is not an exception to it. The present study is an exploration of the political participation of women in Panchayati Raj Institutions in western Odisha. The findings of the study indicate that the participation level of women in Political scenario is low in Odisha and hence there is a greater need for encouragement and freedom to be provided to women to ensure more participation.
