I'm also 28 years old so any potential at going pro has probably passed. However, I do plan to enter a few women's competitions once I've established some skills. First, I'll master the standing up part. Anyone who knows anything about Wilmington (other than Ben Bourgeois) knows that our surf is small and inconsistent. However, on the days that are prime learning waves, I'm often stuck with work (I own my own business) or I'm simply too laid out to make it to the beach and exert energy. However, I know that given some time, I will conquer some basics. Then a backflip aerial. So anyway, my question to you guys/gals is...when reading a surf report, and you're looking at wind direction, how do you know when it's just too much? I look at www.wblivesurf.com and www.wetsand.com to get an idea of the tide, wind, and wave height. But I also look at the 3 Day Buoy forecast in order to plan ahead. I know I want offshore winds so here on the East Coast, shouldn't I be excited about West winds? However, its the East wind that can build the swell, right? So uh...what is it that I want? And how many knots is too many knots? Here is a situation. A while ago a surfer contacted my mother’s company to buy her product. My mother owns/operates a small business selling clear self-adhesive plastic film. The film is called GlassPatch and is intended for windows repair. When a window glass is cracked, the film it glued on the broken glass from one or two sides, covering the whole window. The film is similar to strong clear packaging tapes but sold in big and wide rolls. The surfer guy claimed that he somehow got her film from someone and supposedly it was the best thing that he ever found for fixing or improving (I’m not sure) surfboards. Can anyone guess what he would use it for? Are surfboards covered with some kind of plastic film to protect them? Again, the film in a roll is big enough to cover the whole board. The adhesive is as strong as, probably, duct tape, but does not adhere with full strength immediately and allows to reposition the film.Appreciate any help I can get. I've never surfed before and the only place I can seem to find that I can afford (budget being less than $100) is the Kauai Surf School on Poipu Beach.I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a good school to take a group lesson at and out of 8:00am, 12:00pm or 2:00pm which time would be better to get the lesson?Any help is much appreciated!current mood: curious (catch a wave) Saturday, July 30th, 2005 1:17 pm - Q: How many kooks can you put on one board? reviewer_rob Answer: It dependds on how big of a board you build.I'm in Santa Monica right now. Last night I was in Huntington Beach and that afternoon at the US Open of Surfing they broke the world's record for how many people on one surfboard, "the Nev Hyman-shaped 40-foot world's biggest surfboard".
