Pentingnya kinerja seorang guru akan memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap tujuan pada suatu... more Pentingnya kinerja seorang guru akan memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap tujuan pada suatu sekolah dalam meningkatkan output dari pendidikan yang telah diberikan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah kuisioner yang diberikan kepada 104 orang guru yang dipilih secara acak sebagai sampel menggunakan metode simple random sampling. Penelitian dilakukan yaitu responden memberikan tanggapan terhadap kuesioner dalam bentuk skala likert. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah regresi linear berganda dan pengolahan data menggunakan program Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian pengalaman kerja memberi pengaruh terhadap kinerja guru, artinya semakin baik pengalaman kerja maka akan semakin baik kinerja guru dalam menjalankan tugasnya. Hal ini berarti bahwa pengalaman kerja merupakan variabel penting untuk diperhatikan agar kinerja guru bisa meningkat. Dengan meningkatnya kinerja guru tentu akan berdampak pada pencapaian tujuan yang ditentukan sebelumnya, banyak pekerjaan dan perencanaan sekolah yang tercapai dan yang selesai tepat waktu. Kerja tim sangat erat kaitannya terhadap kinerja guru, artinya semakin tinggi kerja tim akan menunjang kinerja guru yang lebih baik. Oleh karena itu kerja tim merupakan hal penting untuk diperhatikan di dalam meningkatkan kinerja guru.

The population of this research is all of the second year students which consisted of 332 students. There were 34 students who participated in this study as sample. The instrument was a test adapted from authentic material. The frame of the test was covered by 5 components such as, grammar, organization, mechanics, vocabulary, and content. The students write a procedure text based on the topic given. To analyze the data, the raw score of the students was calculated and the level of ability was identified by using the classification of ability level by Arikunto (2003). The result showed that the ability of the second year students of SMKN 2 Pekanbaru in writing procedure texts was at Mediocre level with mean score 74,33. A metaphor is a part of figurative language that compares one thing to another. The researcher used a descriptive employed in study qualitative method to identify a collection of classic poetry by William Blake. The researcher uses the theory of Lakoff, George, and Johnsen (2003) to analyze the conceptual metaphors that shape the reality of 'life' which is reflected in poetry. There are three steps in collecting research data: observation, selection, and classification. This paper discusses an experimental research study regarding the effect of PQRST (Preview, Quest... more This paper discusses an experimental research study regarding the effect of PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summary, and Test) strategy on reading comprehension of the first-year students at SMAN 1 of Sabak Auh Siak. The study shows that 65% of the students have difficulties in comprehending the reading passage about a descriptive text. Based on the students' reading indicators, it can be identified that they have difficulties in determining the main idea, locating references, understanding vocabulary, making inferences, and finding detailed information. This study uses a quantitative method on a true experimental design of two groups of first-year students using pre-test and post-test. The study involves 44 students, divided into two classes: the control class with 21 students and the experimental class with 23 students. The instrument is a test that consists of questions with multiple choices and four options (A/B/C/D). In order to analyze the data formula, statistical software namely SPSS version 23 is used to analyze the results of the study. The significant effect of PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summary, and Test) strategy on reading comprehension at the first-year students of SMAN 1 Sabak Auh in Kabupaten Siak (2-tailed) is. 000 ˂ .005, which means that the H0 is rejected, while Ha is accepted. Thus, there is a significant effect on first-year students' reading comprehension in descriptive text between the students who are taught by applying the PQRST strategy and those who are not.

Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini kuantitatif deskriptif. Sebagai populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI SMAN 3 Langgam dengan sampel berjumlah 34 siswa kelas XI yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Data didapat dari hasil tes dan angket. Tes terdiri dari 40 pertanyaan dan angket terdiri dari 25 pertanyaan. Berdasarkan persentase jawaban hasil tes teks membaca bahasa Inggris menunjukkan ada delapan komponen pemahaman membaca. Enam diantaranya dikategorikan kesulitan level tinggi yaitu mengidentifikasi vocabulary, generic structure, factual information, reference, language feature, dan social function. Semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and open-ended questions were triangulated for validity and reliability data. Several findings were revealed. The Indonesian learners read critically and varied through cognitive, metacognitive, and affective strategies. They applied more cognitive strategies than metacognitive and affective strategies, which was less helpful and less encouraged to think critically. Technology advances, self- concept, and time have affected the strategies used. High and low-group learners also read differently in terms of cognitive, metacognitive, and affective strategies. Appropriate reading strategies and media are needed in academic reading. The lack of interactive teaching, learning strategies, and media has caused students' low critical and creative thinking skills in an online academic reading course. Inquiry and complexity-based learning with online tools can solve these problems. This study aims to develop an Inquiry Complexity Reading Strategy (ICRS) and test its feasibility and effectiveness in enhancing students' critical and creative thinking skills in academic reading. This study applied a Research and Development (R&D) method with ADDIE model. A set of questionnaires and observation data are used for product validity and product effectiveness analysis. The ICRS was very feasible, with expert validity of 95% and expert practicality of 93%. The effectiveness of the ICRS is proven. Therefore, it could be concluded that the ICRS could enhance students' critical and creative thinking skills and participation in an online academic reading course. The teaching and learning activities employing blogs, digital tools, and social media have increased student interaction and sharing of ideas. The limitation of this study is that students' characteristics do not significantly differ in achievement. The ICRS can be used as an alternative and reference to be applied by reading teachers in the EFL context.

The successful implementation of this descriptive quantitative research and the design of research instruments for learning styles contribute to expanding the research methodology in this digital era. The research result can help tertiary Indonesian EFL learners understand their learning styles. It also allows teachers to develop classroom activities, tasks, reading material, and media. Specifically, the use of hypermedia material and the changes in the learning environment mode has changed learners' learning styles in Reading courses, which lead to a change in teachers' teaching approaches

This paper discusses an experimental research study regarding the effect of PQRST (Preview, Quest... more This paper discusses an experimental research study regarding the effect of PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summary, and Test) strategy on reading comprehension of the first-year students at SMAN 1 of Sabak Auh Siak. The study shows that 65% of the students have difficulties in comprehending the reading passage about a descriptive text. Based on the students' reading indicators, it can be identified that they have difficulties in determining the main idea, locating references, understanding vocabulary, making inferences, and finding detailed information. This study uses a quantitative method on a true experimental design of two groups of first-year students using pre-test and post-test. The study involves 44 students, divided into two classes: the control class with 21 students and the experimental class with 23 students. The instrument is a test that consists of questions with multiple choices and four options (A/B/C/D). In order to analyze the data formula, statistical software namely SPSS version 23 is used to analyze the results of the study. The significant effect of PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summary, and Test) strategy on reading comprehension at the first-year students of SMAN 1 Sabak Auh in Kabupaten Siak (2-tailed) is. 000 ˂ .005, which means that the H0 is rejected, while Ha is accepted. Thus, there is a significant effect on first-year students' reading comprehension in descriptive text between the students who are taught by applying the PQRST strategy and those who are not.

Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini kuantitatif deskriptif. Sebagai populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI SMAN 3 Langgam dengan sampel berjumlah 34 siswa kelas XI yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Data didapat dari hasil tes dan angket. Tes terdiri dari 40 pertanyaan dan angket terdiri dari 25 pertanyaan. Berdasarkan persentase jawaban hasil tes teks membaca bahasa Inggris menunjukkan ada delapan komponen pemahaman membaca. Enam diantaranya dikategorikan kesulitan level tinggi yaitu mengidentifikasi vocabulary, generic structure, factual information, reference, language feature, dan social function. Semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and open-ended questions were triangulated for validity and reliability data. Several findings were revealed. The Indonesian learners read critically and varied through cognitive, metacognitive, and affective strategies. They applied more cognitive strategies than metacognitive and affective strategies, which was less helpful and less encouraged to think critically. Appropriate reading strategies and media are needed in academic reading. The lack of interactive teaching, learning strategies, and media has caused students' low critical and creative thinking skills in an online academic reading course. Inquiry and complexity-based learning with online tools can solve these problems. This study aims to develop an Inquiry Complexity Reading Strategy (ICRS) and test its feasibility and effectiveness in enhancing students' critical and creative thinking skills in academic reading. This study applied a Research and Development (R&D) method with ADDIE model. A set of questionnaires and observation data are used for product validity and product effectiveness analysis. The ICRS was very feasible, with expert validity of 95% and expert practicality of 93%. The effectiveness of the ICRS is proven. Therefore, it could be concluded that the ICRS could enhance students' critical and creative thinking skills and participation in an online academic reading course. The teaching and learning activities employing blogs, digital tools, and social media have increased student interaction and sharing of ideas. The limitation of this study is that students' characteristics do not significantly differ in achievement. The ICRS can be used as an alternative and reference to be applied by reading teachers in the EFL context.

The study aimed to explore tertiary Indonesian EFL learners' learning styles in reading hypermedia material since it benefits teachers in determining teaching approaches, assessments, and tasks in teaching reading courses. This study answered the research questions about tertiary Indonesian EFL learners' learning styles and gender differences in their learning styles in reading hypermedia material., Seventy- one first-grade learners were selected randomly as the sample from the 141 learners who enrolled in the Academic Reading course. The four types of learning styles, concrete, analytical, communicative, and authority-oriented, were employed as the categories in this study. Descriptive statistics and t-tests were applied for the data analysis. The study revealed that the tertiary EFL learners' learning styles were concrete and authority-oriented. Concrete and authority-oriented styles were the highest, the communicative style was the second, and the analytical style was the lowest. The t-test result showed no significant difference in learning styles between gender. The successful implementation of this descriptive quantitative research and the design of research instruments for learning styles contribute to expanding the research methodology in this digital era. The research result can help tertiary Indonesian EFL learners understand their learning styles. It also allows teachers to develop classroom activities, tasks, reading material, and media. Specifically, the use of hypermedia material and the changes in the learning environment mode has changed learners' learning styles in Reading courses, which lead to a change in teachers' teaching approaches
