2023 NCAA DIVISION I MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Arizona State’s Leon Marchand swam the fastest split ever in the 50 breast tonight during the 200 medley relay swimming a 22.27. In addition, Minnesota’s Max McHugh and Alabama’s Derek Maas swam the second/third-fastest split with a 22.39.

McHugh previously had the fastest split ever as he swam a 22.40 back in 2021. He bested this time tonight by 0.01 in his final 200 medley relay ever (as he is a fifth year). McHugh swam in the first heat.

In the final heat, Marchand split a 22.27 to pass McHugh’s mark. Notably, McHugh had a reaction time of 0.27 whereas Marchand had a 0.07 reaction time. In addition, Alabama’s Derek Maas moved up in the rankings tonight as he previously was tied for seventh all-time.

McHugh is the defending NCAA champion in the 100 breast and Marchand is the defending NCAA champion in the 200 breast.
